MARA’S POV
"I'm... scared."
The words came out before I could stop myself and I quickly burst into tears. My shoulders racked with sobs, my face buried in my palm as I cried. Every pent up emotion--fear of being rejected by his parents, pain from the betrayal of my mother and the reality that I was not good enough--came crashing down on me all at once.
For a moment, Alexander didn't say anything and the car remained quiet. The only sound was the low hum of the engine and the soft drum of the drizzling rain against the roof of the car. I could feel the intensity of his stare on me even though I didn't look at his face.
