CHAPTER 6

Elijah’s POV I watched her smile fade from her beautiful pink lips as her eyes looked around to make sure no one was watching us. She pulled away her hand from my grip and said, "What are you doing here? Don't you have a match ahead of you?" "It's not important." I said in a solemn tone, "Stop trying to change the subject and answer my question." I stepped closer, making her take a few steps back. Trapped between me and the wall, the girl was like a lost puppy. She said, "What are you doing? Someone might see and misunderstand." "Let them. I don't care." "But I do!" The girl snapped, "I don't want to be associated with you." I furrowed my eyebrows and pulled back, "What do you mean?" She lowered her beautiful eyes and said, "Look, I know you are a good guy but your reputation is not the kind I want to identify with. It is for the best if people don't know about our relationship." "Do you mean you don't want people to know that we slept together?" "Shut up! Keep your voice down, someone might hear you." She put her hand on my mouth to make me stop talking. I pushed down her hand and said, "Are you for real? Girls here die to be with me." "Exactly my point!" Her eyes flared open as she explained, "You sleep around with a new girl every night. I don't want to be reduced to being your bed warmer." “Yeah, right.” I laughed at her remarks, thinking that she was being funny to realize that she was being serious. I stopped giggling and asked, “Wait, are you serious?” "I am." She said, "I am here to study and achieve something in life. I don't want rumors flying around about us, it would be very distracting for my studies." She then added in a calm tone, "So please understand. Let's just forget that the night ever happened and go back to pretending like strangers." I watched the pretty smile on her face and asked, "You slept with me and now you want to walk away from your responsibility?" "You slept with me and now you want to walk away from your responsibility?" "You…" She raised her hands as if she wanted to strangle me but quickly withdrew when she remembered that we were still in public. She closed her eyes and after a moment of silence, said, "See, it was you who suggested we sleep together. You should be thankful that I am not taking advantage of the title of your 'girlfriend' and causing trouble for you." "So, what? If you did not want to take responsibility, you could have just said no." I shrugged. "What…" Confusion flashed on her, I could see her mind shutting off through her lost expressions. I couldn't help but adore it, she looked really cute when flabbergasted. I leaned forward and smirked, "You can't shake me off that easily, kitten." "Stop calling me that!" She hissed and asked, "Listen, I do want anyone knowing about that night. What will it take for you to pretend like the thing which happened between us did not happen?" I took a deep breath before muttering out, "I want to take you out." "What did you just say?" "I have never met a girl like you, Kylie. I think we can be more than just deal-buddies. I want to give it a second try." I was surprised at myself, I have never said these many words to pursue a girl before. This girl really was capable of forcing me out of my usual self. She giggled sarcastically and said, "Yeah, and what next? Get my heart broken and cry my way back home?" "You are misunderstanding me…" "Save it." The girl cut me off before I could even finish my sentence and said, "I know what kind of guy you are and what you are here for. I am not gonna let you just walk up here and play with my feelings. I am not a plaything." I pursed my lips and stepped back, "If that is what you think then fine. I will wait for you to change your mind." "Don't bother. I would rather trust a fox than ever trust you." Kylie turned back and left, I stood there gaping at her. This was the first time I was rejected in my whole life. Yesterday, I went back home after the banquet only to find myself thinking about it all over again. A smile broke on my face when I remembered the way Kylie was carrying herself the whole time, she was stronger than she looked. This piqued my curiosity because this was the first time some girl ever got my interest like this. I don't even bother to know the names of the girls I have been with but there was something about Kylie which was different. I took out my phone and called my best friend Dean. As soon as he answered the phone, I said, "I need you to get me every single detail about Kylie Wade." "Is it urgent?" He asked. "Yes." "Ok." He hung up the phone and reached out to me half an hour later with a lengthy email, containing every single detail about her. "Interesting." I scrolled through the email, absorbing everything in it, "Very interesting." I closed the phone and tossed it aside. For the first time in my life, I was looking forward to meeting a girl at school. The state's tournament was on the bay and today was an elimination match between our school and Oakland High. I was stuck with the preparation since the morning and could not go to the classes or meet Kylie. I had no hopes of meeting her but then I saw her in the hallway and I had to admit, she was beautiful. She had long, raven black hair which made her tipsy blue eyes stand out. She was unlike everything I had known before. I waved at her but to my surprise, she grabbed the girl standing next to her and walked away. I was confused by her behavior but dismissed it by thinking that she must not have seen me. I reached the field, it was all the usual. I was so used to all the cheering that I was unfazed by it at this point. I stood at the corner, waiting for my boys to finish the celebration so that the official game starts. Just then, I felt a familiar scent in the air. I turned my head around swiftly towards the direction and there she was, sitting amongst the crowd. It was kinda creepy of me to have looked straight at her in the stadium packed with so many people. Maybe I scared her as well because the next thing I saw was her getting up to leave. I did not want her to, so I told the referee I needed to go to the locker room and went after her. The way she was avoiding me, I thought that she was being just shy. Little did I know that she was plain embarrassed and did not want to have anything to do with me. It was a bummer, I had several girls I am not interested in come beg me for a second time. It was only Kylie who was avoiding me like a plague and it just made me want her more. "Busted, I see…" A mock filled voice rang in my head, making me snap out of my train of thoughts. My expressions turned colder as I said in a murderous tone, "Shut up!" The person who was currently snickering at me inside my head was Fio, my wolf. Yes, Kylie was right about me. I am not just an ordinary human like her but a werewolf belonging to the Southern Pack. Humans were not aware of us beasts walking amongst them and we kept our identity tight even from our closest friends. No one knew about my true identity else than my best friend, Dean, who himself was from our pack. Werewolves don't usually mingle with humans, other than me and Dean, there are no other wolves in our school. I was here because my mother is a human and she came out of the pack after she split from my father. I was very enthusiastic about this new life because I was always fascinated by humans. They are easy to please and are really weak; I didn't even have to put in half the effort and I was already the captain of the football team. Being a popular guy, both back in my pack and here, I have had a lot of girls trying to climb my bed but I have never met anyone like Kylie before. There was something about her which made me want her more and more. Even Fio, who was anything but Casanova like me, felt weirdly attracted to her. Fio said, "I told you good girls don't like men who sleep around. If you kept your d**k inside your pants, she would have been ours by now." "She will be ours. I like a girl who plays hard to get." I replied. "How hard?" Fio sneered, "I am your wolf don't feed me with bullshit. I know you are just as anxious as me by her cruel rejection." I pursed my lips and did not say anything for a while, "I will make her mine. I just need to find a way to make her change her opinion about me. Fio furrowed his eyebrows and looked at Kylie who went out through the door. It was not even a minute since she left and he was already craving her presence and yearning to be with her. He said, "Whatever you are doing, make it fast." I grunted and turned around to leave for the field.
