Kylie's POV
I ran out of the school building and did not stop until I reached the parking lot. I caught my breath and turned around to make sure he hadn't followed me outside. Fortunately, he didn't; I guess he understood that his cheap tricks to swoon me weren't gonna work.
I have known men like him all my life, they would do anything to bed you and once they are done, they would toss you aside, leaving you all by yourself to collect the broken pieces of your heart from the cold floor.
Elijah has been a playboy since I knew him. There is no way he had changed overnight, that too over a one night stand.
My trust issues have peaked after Justin's episode, I was already hurting and there was no way I would date a playboy to get more hurt.
I went to my bike parked in the parking station only to find that it had broken down, again! "Dammit!" I cursed inside my head. This bike was a hand me down and extremely old, I was forced to use this because of the lack of a better option.
My house was far away and there was no way I could make it back home by walking. I called the nearest mechanic store and asked them if they could get my bike fixed. Thankfully, they agreed!
I checked the time, there was no bus back home now at these hours. So, I had to wait for Jessica to give me a lift back home.
I texted her and being a good sport, she replied that she was immediately coming over. I did not want to spoil her fun, so I asked her to finish watching and meet me in the hallway after the match.
She agreed!
Since I had nothing to do to kill my time, I decided to go and do some reading at the library while I waited for her. I was hoping to have a peaceful afternoon ahead by running into Lisa on the way.
The girl was seemingly ranting on her phone. I wanted to turn around and walk away but unfortunately, she saw me.
"Kylie!" She hung up on her phone and chased me, "Kylie, wait!"
"What do you want?" I snapped in a cold tone.
She raised an eyebrow as ridicule surfaced on her features, "Developed an attitude already?"
I rolled my eyes and said, "Lisa, I know you have nothing better to do with your life but I do. I don't want to waste my time bickering with you, you are not worth it."
Lisa looked hurt by my words, she stepped back and said, "Kylie, I know you are living the dream right now by dating one of the most popular guys in school. I am happy for you but… Is Elijah even a good person?"
Mockery surfaced in my eyes when I heard her words. Lisa has had a crush on Elijah since middle school, it was too bad he never noticed her. After multiple rejections, she chose to be the fox who called the grapes sour and claimed that Elijah wasn't good enough for her. Little did she expect that the guy she was interested in to be dating her sister.
I knew that it was not concern but pure jealousy speaking right now.
Even though there was nothing between me and him, I decided to mess with her just to be petty. I put on a confused expression and asked, "What do you mean?"
She said, "Elijah is a playboy. You might feel that he loves you but in reality, he doesn't. He is just playing with your feelings."
"It's ok. I am not looking for anything serious anyways." I shrugged.
"Is it worth it, Kylie? He is not a good guy and who knows, he must be cheating on you with some other girl. If I were in your place, I would break up with him right now." she said.
Even though she tried to look calm, I could feel the impatience in her tone.
I shrugged my shoulders and replied, "It is surprising to me that you are saying all these after chasing him in middle school."
"That… That was just immaturity! I was in middle school, I was young and did not know the difference between good and bad." She said, before adding, "Also, you have started dating so soon. You broke up with Justin the day before yesterday and you already have a boyfriend. I am afraid people will paint you in a negative light."
"What negative light? Call me a slut?"
A smile appeared on her face when she heard my words but she was quick to conceal it. She said, "I am not calling you that but I am afraid other people will."
I smiled and replied in a calm tone, "Don't worry, sis. When you are not getting slut shamed for sleeping with your sister's boyfriend, I don't think anyone would bother to call me that over dating someone else."
The victorious smile on her face was quick to disappear when she heard my words. "You… What did you say?" She asked, her body slightly trembling with anger.
The polite smile on my face turned colder as I walked past her, saying, "Exactly what you heard."
I did not bother to entertain her any longer and walked away. I heard her calling my name a good few times but I did not give her any heed.
Once I reached the library, it was all silent or peaceful. Or just so I thought…
I picked up a random book and started to read it until a familiar voice interrupted me, "I knew I could find you here."
I lifted my head from my book to see Justin standing across the table. As someone who loathes the sight of books, I was surprised to see him here, "You? What are you doing here?"
"I came looking for you. Can we talk?" He asked in a pleading tone.
I scanned him with my eyes and all I felt was endless numbness. The butterflies I felt when I used to look into his eyes had long withered. Right now to me, he was nothing but a mere stranger.
"Won't your girlfriend be upset if she sees you talking to me?" I averted my attention back to my book, hoping that he would leave but instead he occupied the seat next to me, "I don't care what she thinks."
I shut my book and asked him, "What do you want?"
"Kylie, I am realizing it now. It was a huge mistake, I should not have let temptation get the best of me. Please, can we get back together?"
"Is this what you have to say after cheating on me?"
"I am sorry, okay. I know I was stupid but you should see my perspective as well. You wouldn't let me touch you, where else am I supposed to fulfill my physical needs? If we were just like a normal couple, it wouldn't have happened."
I did not know whether I was supposed to be amused by his words or get agitated. I asked, "Are you putting the blame on me?"
"No! No, no. We both were at fault but I am the one to be blamed." He quickly explained and added, "Babe, please trust me. I won't ever do it again, I love you."
I scoffed and asked, "What about Lisa and your baby she is pregnant with?"
"I will take care of it." He said optimistically, "I will talk to my father and get her compensation. I will get everything sorted, it will be like she was never there in the first place."
I couldn't help but giggle, "It is so easy for you, isn't it? I am glad you cheated on me and we broke up, it would have been sad if I ended up with someone like you."
He looked hurt by my words and said, "Kylie, please give me a chance. I swear to you I have changed."
I did not want to stay there any longer. I collected my bag and got up to leave.
He did not want to give up as he said, "Please, let me fix it."
I stopped on my tracks and turned around to look at him, "Some things can't be fixed, Justin. After what you did to me, I will never forgive you."
The match had already finished and the kids were flooding the hallway by the time I reached downstairs. For some reason, I felt as if everyone was looking at me and gossipping.
It was weird and I tried to dismiss it by thinking that it was all in my head. I reached my locker and saw Jessica making her way towards me.
I said, "Girl, is it just me or is everyone looking at me weirdly?"
"Kylie, what did you do? Why are there rumors about you and Elijah sleeping together?" She asked, taking me off guard.
"What!" My eyes flared open, "Who told you this?"
"It's been all over the place. I heard it from the school group myself."
I looked around and by the way everyone was seeing me, I could say that Jessica wasn't lying. "This is bad. This is really really bad!"
"I know. Getting associated with Elijah is always a bad idea." She chimed in.
I was panicking, I tried my best to keep this under the wraps but it has already blown out of proportion. I was worried sick thinking about what to do when Jessica patted my shoulder and said, "Look, Elijah is coming this way."
I turned around to see him walking towards me with the rest of his team. The whole hallway was looking at him as if he was some celebrity from a rom-com.
Everyone broke in chatter with girls swooning over him but no matter what, his eyes never left me.
Elijah stopped right in front of me and declared, "Kylie, be mine."
His words caused an uproar amongst the peers. Was Elijah asking a girl out? No way!
My face turned red out of embarrassment, what was he thinking? What should have remained a mere rumor was now proved to be a fact by him.
I clenched my fist and said, "No!"
I heard the cheers and chatter stop abruptly as I stormed off the hallway.
