Kylie’s POV
Be mine!
The more I thought about his words, the angrier I got.
Who does he think he is? I clearly told him I didn’t want to be associated with him, so why would he put on such a public display?
Also, who would start such a rumor about me? Elijah and I were worlds apart, no one would even think of associating us together.
Unless… the person knew about my involvement with him.
I clenched my fist, I knew exactly who did this.
Jessica too came running out of the school, she was worried sick when I left like that. She asked, “What the hell was that?”
“Let’s not talk about it.” I stopped her but I couldn’t stop myself from ranting, “How can he be so stupid? He literally just green-lighted all the rumors that we are fucking.”
Jessica patted my shoulder and said, “It’s alright, babe. Don’t worry. It will die down in a few days.”
“You think? It is Elijah we are talking about. All his admirers must be trashing me already in their group chats.”
Jessica chuckled and draped her arms around my shoulder, casting her support, “You know him. He is just gonna sleep with some other girl and people are gonna forget this ever happened."
I grunted silently, I hoped so too. I had a few months left for college, I did not want to screw it up.
It was almost time for my shift at the restaurant so Jessica took me there directly.
"Hello, chief." I waved at Martin Jacobs, the restaurant owner who was filling the register behind the counter.
He looked at me with his usually rude expression and said, "You are finally here. What took you so long?"
"I am sorry, my bike broke down." I said as I removed my bag.
"Another excuse. I am not paying you for coming late and doing the bare minimum, Kylie."
"Hey, the car is parked." Jessica ran up to me and waved at Martin, "Hello, Mr Jacobs."
Martin's temperament changed immediately when he caught the sight of Jessica. He smiled goofily and said, "Hello, Jessica. Long time, no see."
"Yeah, busy with school work." She said before casually asking, "Mr Jacobs, I am bored. Mind if I hang out with Kylie for a while?"
"No problem. You can visit anytime you want."
"Thank you." Jessica smiled before dragging me away.
I was mind-blown by this interaction, I whispered to her, "He totally has a crush on you."
"I know, I might consider making him my sugar daddy when I am 18." Jessica replied nonchalantly.
"Yeah, right. He won't even be able to afford the toothpaste you use." I laughed.
Jessica hailed from a rich family, her father was a celebrity realtor and her mother was a fashion designer for a luxury brand.
As for Martin Jacobs, he was just trying to make his livelihood out of this restaurant. The business was not booming, not because of the food or hospitality, but because of the oversaturation of restaurants in this particular area. Martin tried his best to revive the business but couldn't, he long gave up on it and was just operating it because it was a family business.
I walked into the changing area and changed into my uniform which was a formal white shirt with black pants. I tried my hair into a high ponytail and walked out with Jessica.
The business was slow today as usual, other than a few regular customers, there was no crowd. I was at my counter, chatting with my fellow customer when I heard the bell ring.
This customer's arrival grabbed everyone's attention; the girls stopped gossiping and started to talk about how handsome he was.
I smiled weakly, I never engaged in the activity of checking out other men so I remained in my position.
Since my back was turned towards the door, I did not see who it was but Jessica did. Her expressions stiffened with surprise and she immediately told me, "Look! It's Elijah."
"What!" I turned my whole body towards the seating area to see who it was, turned out Jessica wasn't messing with me.
The man was dressed in a casual red t-shirt and pants and as soon as he entered, he shot his gaze at me. A smirk appeared at the corner of his lips, making my own face go pale.
I immediately dropped to my knees, making a terrible attempt to hide myself.
I asked Jessica, "Do you think he saw me?"
She observed him, sitting at a random empty table and whispered back, "I think he knew very clearly you were here."
"Gosh… Why would he come to my workplace? What is he thinking?"
"Girl, calm down. He is not sitting at your table." Jessica reported, making me breathe a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness, I swear to God if he does anything stupid, I am…" Before I could even finish my sentence, my colleague walked up to me and said, "Kylie, the person sitting at table 28 asked for you."
"What?" I lifted my head from the counter and just as I thought, it was Elijah who was occupying that seat. I asked her, "Why is he asking for me?"
"I don't know. He did not tell me!"
I took a double take at him waiting patiently at the table and said, "Can you ask someone else to assist him?"
"Trust me, they would love to do it but he specifically asked for you." She said with a shrug.
I looked at Jessica before taking in a deep breath, "Fine. I will go over."
I composed myself and walked over to him with a sulking face; maybe Elijah noticed me from the corner of his eyes and tilted his head to look at me.
"Good evening." He smiled, making me snap, "You! Why are you here?"
He knitted his eyebrows together and replied carelessly, "Isn't this a restaurant? I am here to have food."
"Cut the bullshit. I know you are here to mess with me."
He tied his hand together next to his chest and said, "Is that so?"
"Yes." I pointed my pen at him and said, "I don't know what you are plotting but it is not going to happen. Now, leave before I get you kicked out."
Elijah simply smirked and did not say anything. His not even batting an eyelid towards my threatening irked me more.
I said, "Did you not hear me? Leave!"
"Kylie? What is going on in here?" Martin asked me as he came over to us. I quickly withdrew my pen but before I could answer, he asked Elijah, "Sir, is there a problem here?"
Elijah took a glance at me before replying, "Yeah, this waitress here is asking me to leave for some reason. I don't know why."
Martin's expression changed and he looked at me immediately, "Kylie, what the hell is this? Did you really do that?"
"Yes, but…" I opened my mouth to explain but was cut down by the owner. He scolded, "Are you serious right now? Is this what I am paying you for? How can you ask a customer to just leave?"
I glared at Elijah for a moment before lowering my gaze, "Sorry, boss."
"You better be!" He said before ordering, "Now be respectful and assist this gentleman. Don't try anything funny, I will be watching you."
Elijah waited for Martin to leave before saying, "That was brutal."
"You…"
"Ah ah ah! If I were you, I wouldn't do that. Remember, you are being watched."
I quickly withdrew myself even though I was fuming inside. I could not afford to lose this job, so I put on a forced smile and asked, "Sure, sir. My apologies. What would you like to have?"
"Much better." Elijah commented before going through the menu and picking out a club sandwich with a side of fries.
I wrote it down on the paper and asked, "Would that be it, sir?"
"Yes, I think that is it."
"I will be right back."
I turned on my heel and walked away as fast as I could. I told the chef about the order and went back to the counter, even talking to him was exhausting to me.
As soon as I reached the counter, the girls swarmed around me to ask every single question about the 'handsome customer'. Some of them even claimed that they were jealous of me and would sell their soul to be in my place.
I saw them fangirl over a dude they just met and frowned, why do girls do that? I doubt if they would still be the same if they ever got to know how annoying he was.
I smiled and kept dodging the questions until I was told that the order was ready. I reluctantly got up from the seat and went to grab the food.
Placing it in front of him, I said, "Enjoy your meal, sir."
I did not want to stick there any longer and was about to leave when he stopped me, "Can you add more tomatoes to the sandwich?"
My eyes twitched, why didn't he say that earlier? I forced a smile and took the plate, "Sure, sir. Give me a minute."
I went back to the kitchen to get his order fixed. He checked the sandwich before saying, "Can you get me extra hot sauce?"
"Seriously! You just got it fixed." I said.
"If you can't do it, I will ask someone else." He looked past me at Martin and was about to call him when I stopped him, "Wait, I will get it. Don't call the boss."
If you think that my trips back and forth to the kitchen stopped there, you are wrong. He made me go back to order lemonade but changed his mind to Blue Lagoon with some onion rings.
Once he was done eating, I went to him with the bill. Elijah footed the bill and even gave me a generous tip, which made my mood slightly better. I collected the tab and said, "Thank you, sir. Do visit again."
"Wait!" Elijah called me and stood up. He extended his arm to give me what looked like a ticket, "This is for you."
"Umm… what is it?"
"VIP tickets to my game. I am playing for the state team."
