ANNIE Kameron used his considerable influence to book the Ridge Cathedral for Jim's wedding. He had also insisted on paying for nearly everything. I think it was his way of atoning for the fact that they had both been injured while on his payroll. Jim had campaigned for a small wedding, but he'd been overruled by Helen, who insisted she was only getting married once, so she wanted the wedding of her dreams. And I suspect she might have taken some perverse pleasure in having Kameron pay for her designer dress, the explosions of hot-house flowers, and, of course, the beautiful Cathedral. Not to mention the lavish reception she had planned afterwards. I took my seat with the other guests, sitting alone between strangers, because Kameron was up at the altar, standing as Jim's best man.
