ALLISTER Her breath gently fanned against my lips, in what I believed was a sigh of relief. It was odd of her to feel relaxed and reassured after I promised a war and bloodshed. But clearly, there was much I did not know about this girl. She'd taken me by surprise this morning. Every word that left her mouth had seemed to be directed less towards me, and more towards the selfish beast sitting within me, waiting to be challenged. I did not want to lose her. But I could have lived with it if it meant she'd be safe. My wolf, however, did not agree. Xyla had been right. It had already marked her as his territory. In the beast's eye, Xyla was his property. Like a bone to a dog, and a treasure to a dragon. There was no way in hell he was going to let me rest if I did not try to get her back.
