“See?” Corvina giggles as she turns around to me, Kai still looking at her as if he wanted to rip her head off.
She looks back at Kai. “Are you okay?”
He nods, but I get up to stand next to Corvina as something in his expression doesn’t convince me.
And in fact, as soon as I have reached her, looping my arm with hers, he starts grinning slyly, telling me everything I need to know.
“Alright,” Corvina whispers, exhaling as she moves her arm again to pull down the sizzling shield.
I bounce on my heels, not tearing my gaze off Kai who is observing me amused. “So, what does that mean?”
