Chapter Nine

(Rain's Pov)

"Hey, Max," I said and walked off. It's kind of funny that Johnny didn't recognize Max. Max is the bully that used to pick on Johnny and me. I would never fight back and I wouldn't let Johnny either. I knew what was going on at home because I rode past their house so many times. I could hear the screaming and crying. It was terrible what his family did to him but now that's over and Max lives with his grandparents. It's funny how we truly met, but I'll save that story for later.

"Hey, babe. How are you doing?" he asked.

"I'm doing better, Johnny and I made up."

"What?!"

"Yeah. . .him and I are friends again."

"You can't be friends with him!" he said.

"Why not?" I asked, getting a little angry.

"He's just going to hurt you," he said softly.

"You hurt me and I gave you a second chance."

He sighed and said, "I know, and I'm sorry. But I heard him and Andy talking."

"And?"

"And Andy called you a goth loser and Johnny agreed." I bit my lip as I turned around to look at Andy. Johnny went for a walk and Andy was talking to Joe. Joe had a light blush on her face and I smiled.

"I don't care," I said.

"What?" he said, shocked.

"They didn't mean it. I have to go," I said.

"Rain, if they hurt you. . . ." he said.

"I know, I love you," I said.

"I love you, too. I'll talk to you later," he said. I hung up and walked over to Joe and Andy. Andy smiled at me while Joe looked at the ground with a small smile on her face. She was still blushing slightly and I smiled. Does she like Andy?

"Hey, did Johnny go for a walk?" I asked.

"Yeah," Andy said. I nodded and we all went inside to watch TV.

(Johnny's Pov)

I walked down the road thinking. Why would I be jealous of Max? Is it because he has a better relationship with Rain? But they have a romantic relationship. All I want is a friendship, right? Why can't I convince myself that! I've never thought of Rain, or any other boy, in a romantic way. Up until now. I groaned and stopped walking.

I sighed and said, "I just can't." Great, now I'm talking to myself! I sighed again and started walking. As I was walking, I saw someone in the distance walking towards me. I was just going to pass them when I noticed it was Max. He started running and once he was close enough he yelled my name.

"Johnny!" I bit my lip and stopped walking. He got up to me and glared. I looked at him confused when he grabbed me by my shirt collar and got in my face.

"Um. . . ." I said nervously.

"We need to talk," he practically snarled.

"About what?" I said.

"Rain." Rain? What about Rain? "You can't just come in and hurt him."

"Hurt him? Look, I may have said some things that were hurtful, but I didn't mean what I said."

"I don't care if you didn't mean them. They hurt him. I should skin you alive just for making him cry," Max said. That got me angry.

"Me?! You're the one who cheated on him!" I said. Big mistake. . . .

He punched me in the jaw and said, "It was a mistake! I actually love him unlike you!"

I glared at him and said, "Maybe I do love him! Hell, maybe I'm more in love with him then you!" I shut my mouth and he looked at me in shock.

"Liar," he said. I bit my lip and sighed. Maybe I am in love with him?

"I'm not lying!" He chuckled and shook his head.

"Why would you be in love with him? You ignore him for four years and then come in and say you're in love? And with my boyfriend?!" he said, getting angry again. I bit my lip and nodded. He went to punch me again but I ducked and grabbed his hand.

"Can't we settle this without violence?!"

"Fine, I'll go see what Rain has to say about this." My eyes widened and I grabbed his shoulder.

"WAIT!"

"What? Afraid I'm going to ruin your reputation? If you were really in love with him you wouldn't care what people thought. You'd do anything to get him to love you back."

"I don't want to ruin our friendship," I said.

"And I don't want you stealing the love of my life," Max said.

"Then don't tell him!" I said.

"Oh, I'm telling him alright." I glared at him and he smirked. He started walking towards the farm and I tackled him. "What the hell!? Are you trying to bust my head open?!" he yelled.

"I'm not letting you tell him!" He smirked again.

"Why?"

Why? I don't know why?! Maybe because I don't want to ruin our friendship! But he didn't care the last time I said it. As I was coming up with an excuse his phone went off. He put it on speaker and told me to shut it.

"What?" he growled.

"Hey, babe. I was wondering when you were coming back to the house." His eyes widened and I looked at him in shock. He's cheating on Rain again?!

"What?!" I yelled.

"Um, who is that?" the guy said.

"No one, I'll be home in a little." Max hung up and I glared down at him.

"What the hell?! You're cheating on him?!" I asked.

"You don't understand," Max said and pushed me off of him. I scoffed and crossed my arms.

"What's there to understand? You're an asshole who just wants people for s*x," I said.

He smirked and said, "Maybe that's true, but as you know I haven't gotten Rain to have s*x with me yet."

"You can't do this to him!" I said angrily.

He laughed and said, "Why not? Because you love him? No one is in love with that horse loving freak." Max laughed even harder and started walking again. I glared as I started running after him. He started running and by the time he was out of breath we were at the farm. He smirked and saw Rain sitting on the fence with Andy and Joe. Max calmly went up to them and kissed Rain.

"Max!" Rain said.

"Hey," he said and chuckled.

"What are you doing here?" Rain asked.

"I missed you."

Before I could stop myself I walked right up to them and said, "He's a liar!" Everyone looked at me in shock and Max had a fake hurt look on his face.

"What?" Rain asked.

"He isn't in love with you!" I said.

"Johnny, what are you talking about?" Joe asked.

"Yeah, of course I'm in love with him!" Max said.

I glared at him and said, "No you're just using him for s*x!"

Rain glared at me and said, "What the hell, Johnny?!"

"What?! Max is cheating on you!" I said.

Max started laughing and said, "You're joking, right?"

"No! You're a liar!" I said. He rolled his eyes and looked at Rain.

"You're not going to believe him are you?" he asked softly. Rain glanced at me and sighed.

"No," I looked at Rain in shock and hurt.

"But, Rain!" I said.

"Enough, Johnny. Why would you do this?" he asked.

"I'm trying to help you!" I said.

"By telling me that Max is cheating on me when he's not?" Rain said. I bit my lip and shook my head.

"Believe what you want- I'm out of here," I said and started walking to the road.

"Johnny! Come on, man, don't do this!" Andy yelled.

"Just leave me alone," I said. I heard Max laugh.

"With the way he's acting it's as if he's in love with you or something." I clenched my fist and ignored his comment.

"Johnny. . . ." That was the last thing I heard before I took off running up the road. I hate him.
