My heart beat slows as I take a deep breath, my breathing controlled and ready. I feel my muscles tighten, my body prepared for what’s to come as a wave of adrenaline courses through my veins. The pulse of energy in me is a thrill that I have missed very much. The feeling is familiar and comforting. The process is almost soothing to me. Like it is the only thing I know. And the only thing I know how to do right. For the first time, in what feels like a very long time, I was finally able to move and fight without constraints. And it felt good.
