Krystal
It is my first day of school in college. I have never had any friends since I was in high school. I did not care much though. I got used to it. I think this way is much better than having fake friends like what I had when I was in grade school.
As soon as I entered the campus, I saw a very familiar face. Naomi Edwards, smiling with her friends. I immediately looked away after seeing her and turned my direction the opposite way to avoid contacting her.
"I have to avoid her in all circumstances," I said to myself, and continued to look for a way. I remember the first time I met her in grade school. I was young but it is part of my memory that I will never ever forget, even if I want to.
At that time, she was so bright and cheerful that I even saw her from afar. To be honest, I did want to be a friend of hers but she was with a lot of people around her. I was shy and remained silent, staring at her and the others. She noticed that I was staring at them for some time.
I remember that very moment she came to me and befriended me. After some time, we became friends, at least that was what I thought. I liked her a lot and trusted her because she was my friend. Yet, after almost 6 years of friendship, I found out that she was talking at my back with our other classmates. She was telling them lies about me, so I made myself present in front of them so she would know that I heard everything.
What was worse was she did not apologize to me and just simply did not talk with me. At that time, I wondered how she was raised. How can she have such an attitude?
I was badly hurt that I no longer made friends and had neglected those who came to be my friends. I don't want to feel the hurt I had back then.
"How I wish I had not met her at that time. I should have known her actions the first time she said that my family is rich, etc. I was stupid to trust her all my grade school years." I said while kicking the stone on the ground as I continued to walk.
"Oh my gosh! You are Krystal, right?" A girl suddenly said in front of me. Then her other friends followed her. There were a total of three girls in front of me. I am taller than them, but not that big a height difference.
"I can't believe that we are going to attend the same school. Well, this school is the best for me though," the girl said.
"Hmm. Can you move aside please?" I asked because I didn't have time to talk with them.
"Wait, there are no classes yet. Can we talk a bit in there?" She said as she tried to insist on talking with me. She pointed at the place where Naomi was.
"I can't. I am sorry. I have to do something." I said to her, hoping that she would stop sticking with me and stop me from walking away.
I know there are no classes yet, since every first day of school, there are orientations and students join clubs. I have a club that I want to be part of and that is what I want to do right now. Not talking with random people I do not know. They all have the same thing others want from me. Of course, they do not want to become my friend.
"Fine. We just want to be your friends. That is why you don't have any, because you keep on telling them to stay away from you. Come on, its college, still no friends? Ugh!" She said to me as soon as I tried to walk away.
See? I was right. Her true colors are revealing now. It did not even last a day at least.
"Are you my stalker?" I asked her.
"What?" She asked.
"I know you are not stupid enough not to know the meaning of that word. You're a college student for your hells sake!" I replied to her.
"I know what it means, but I can't believe you asked if I am your stalker? Are you for real?" She said. Her other two friends are silently listening to us.
"Only three kinds of people will know my past. First, my previous classmates. Second, my personal maid. Lastly, my stalkers. Even my dad doesn't know it. You are not in the 1st and 2nd. So how could you know I never had friends?" I asked her.
"Well, I am not your stalker. Everyone knows you, your past and your dirty work." She said.
I did not know that she would be this b***h.
"Dirty work? I don't know where you heard that, but at least you should have looked for references before you face me and say such things. You might have thought that misinformation is a trend nowadays. That is why you are trying to go with it." I said to her and continued to walk away from them.
"You only got the valedictorian in high school because you paid the teachers!" She shouted so I could hear her.
How could she have no manners? I can't help but wonder about her actions.
"Really? I did not know." I replied to her as soon as I turned to face her.
"I have heard a lot of rumors about me and I guess this is the latest," I said to myself and continued walking.
She did not say anything else but I heard her shouting loudly in frustration. She should not have tried to pick a fight with me because I have had a lot of foolish arguments like that. I had the same rumor in high school when I got the 1st rank. I think I know who is the one spreading the rumors.
If they are smart enough, why would they believe such things? My personal maid advised me not to worry about them because once a person has his own perspective for a while, whatever you say or do, it will take time and it is very hard to pursue them and if the truth is I am not doing anything wrong, why should I prove it to them? They are not my dad.
My priority is my dad, to make him proud and to give me his attention. Not someone else. I don't care about anyone except him.
There are many club stalls right now and I have to look for a club that I really want to join. As I walked in between the stalls I got dizzy looking.
"Why did they organize it this way?" I said.
"Why didn't they organize the stalls? That is what you should say. It is obvious no one tried to organize all of them." Someone said. He is a guy and he is standing beside me. He was not looking at me but he was looking at the stalls.
"Sorry?" I said.
"I was right, right?" He asked.
"What is he up to? Is he the same as the guys who used to approach me or is he just sharing his thoughts with me?" I asked myself.
"What are you thinking about? Oh! I did not introduce myself to you. By the way, my name is James Ellis. What's yours?" He asked.
"He does not know me? Is he different from others or is he simply faking it? It is hard to put trust in others," I said to myself.
"You don't know me?" I asked him to make sure.
"Uhmm, yeah! That is why I asked for your name." He answered.
"I see. My name is Krystal," I said.
"Evans?---Krystal Evans?" He said. So he knew my name but did not know what I looked like. He totally looks surprised, so he was not lying a while ago.
"That's correct. You know my name but not my face, I guess." I said to him.
"You are quite famous," he replied.
"Famous for something I am not." I said to him and walked away first. The conversation there was long already and I cannot spend more time talking with him.
"Hi! Do you want to join the student council?" Someone asked.
"What?" I asked because I was not able to hear what she said.
"Student council." She repeated.
"Thank you, but I will have to reject your offer," I said to her.
"It is okay." She replied. I was about to go but, since she is a student council member, she might be able to help me look for the club I want to join.
"Uhmm--- Excuse me, can I ask a question?" I asked her.
"Yes, of course." She replied with a smiley face. I guess she does not know me either.
"Do you know where the broadcasting club is?" I asked her.
I don't want to be a broadcaster or whatever, I just want to help them stack movies and music albums there as well as the newspaper.
"Are you sure you are going to join that club?" She asked. Her reaction is strange, but I don't care.
"Yes," I replied to her.
"There are only seniors in that club. Last year there were no applicants for that club. But if you want to be part of them, their stall is at the end of the stalls on the right side." She said and told me the directions.
"I see. Thank you." I replied to her and went straight towards the stall where I wanted to join.
"For me it is a good thing that there are fewer people there. At least, I don't have to talk to a lot of people.
After I passed a lot of stalls, I finally got to stand in front of the club that I wanted to join. Their stall did not look eye-catching at all. How could they design it like this? This could be one of the many reasons why no one joined last year.
There is only one person in the stall and he is playing on his phone.
"I should start saying it now rather than do it later," I said to myself.
"Hi! I would like to join the club, can I?" I asked the person. As soon as I said hi, he immediately turned his attention to me.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, I am sure." I replied to him.
"Thank you so much. I thought no one would ever join the club again. Here, fill up all the information on the paper and you are ready to become part of the club." He said and gave you a piece of paper full of blanks and a pen.
"Okay." I replied and humbly took the pen and filled out the information.
"By the way, why do you want to join the club?" He asked while I was writing.
"I just like it." I replied to him while answering the blanks I had to fill up.
"Oh! I see. Me? I joined the club because of my crush." He said to me.
Is it okay for him to say this to me? I didn't even know what to reply to him.
"I see," I replied shortly, and continued to answer the paper.
"He is my boyfriend now." He added, which made me surprised.
"What?! Your boyfriend?" I asked him. Is he lying to me right now? It is not that I like him, but he is handsome.
"Yeah. For real! Look." He said and made me see the picture of him and his boyfriend.
They have so many pictures together that were so cute and they really do look lovey dovey.
"This was the time he asked me to become his boyfriend." He said and made me see a video of them hugging each other. It looks like happened in the club. He is obviously not lying. His boyfriend has a good face too.
"That is good," I replied.
"What kind of reply was that?" I asked myself.
"I know. We are graduating this school year. That is why I am so happy that you are here. I hope next year there will be more. The club was our bridge in our relationship." He said to me.
I can see that he really likes the guy and he wants the club to keep on going.
"It will be." I replied to him and gave him the paper because I finished filling out all the blanks I had to fill in.
"Thank you and thank you so much for joining the club. Welcome to the club!" He said and hugged me.
"You are welcome and thank you too." I said as I tried to get away from his hug.
"What are you doing?" A guy suddenly grabbed the person I was talking to.
"Who are you?" The guy asked me.
"I am---." I said, but was interrupted.
"Stop! You are scaring our newest member," he said. It is his boyfriend, he is the guy I saw in the picture.
"You are a new member?" The guy asked.
"I am," I replied.
"Oh! I am very sorry for my actions. I was only flustered that my boyfriend was hugging a girl." He said. So he was jealous.
"You are jealous?" The other asked his boyfriend.
"What the hell are they doing in front of me? They are flirting when they know that I am still in front of them," I said to myself.
"I am sorry, but I have to go. Thank you so much again." I said to them.
"Okay, the club room is near the student council room. Go there tomorrow." His boyfriend said to me.
"I will." I replied and continued walking away.
Their relationship was not easy. I think they had a lot of problems before proclaiming that they were in a relationship. They are both good-looking and I am sure that girls liked both of them. They did not seem gay-like. At first glance, you can't even tell that they are gays.
There might be people like them out there. I am not against them being like that, but I was shocked that even guys who act like guys like other guys. I am surprised. I have never encountered such people before. I feel at ease knowing that I have good seniors. I just hope things will not go hard for me at the club.
I looked for a place where I could sit down since I have been walking for some time. It made me tired. My mind is also aching for all the colors I saw there. So many bright colors and unorganized.
"There." I said to myself after seeing the available place to sit. Luckily, there were no other people there. The other students might still be busy going around the campus.
"Today's to do is done." I said to myself as soon as I sat on the seat.
"Krystal?" Someone said.
