I was in my room when my phone vibrated on the bed beside me. I looked over and saw a message from Jackson.
Jackson: You up for a study night?
I smiled and typed back.
Me: Who’s coming?
Jackson: Me, Luca, and Elias. We’ll bring snacks.
Me: What subject?
Jackson: Math. The one I hate the most.
I laughed to myself and sent a thumbs up emoji. A study session sounded nice. I’d been home most of the day, pretending to go over notes but mostly staring at my phone.
A few minutes later, another message came through.
Luca: Jackson says we’re studying. I say it’s more like pretending to study while Avery helps us pass.
Me: As long as you bring snacks, I’ll help.
Luca: Done.
I smiled again. They always managed to make me laugh.
