(Elias) The school day dragged on, but my mind wasn’t on classes. I kept thinking about Avery. After everything that happened, I wanted to make sure she was okay. Jackson was home resting after his injury, so we had promised to check on her as soon as we could. By the time the final bell rang, Luca and I had finished our after school activities. Luca had piano Practice, errands, and a few things at home had kept us from visiting her earlier. Now it was evening, the sky already darkening, and we finally headed toward her house. I kept glancing at my phone, checking the time. I was hoping we weren’t too late. Jackson couldn’t come with us because of his ankle, and I knew he was probably blaming himself for not being able to check on Avery earlier. I understood how he felt, I felt the same
