(Jackson) Friday came faster than I expected. I woke up early and checked my phone. Luca had already texted the group chat. Luca: Ready to leave yet? Elias replied right after. Elias: It's 8 am. We're not leaving until tonight. Avery sent a laughing emoji. Avery: Patience, Luca. I smiled and typed back. Me: We'll pick you all up around 6. Be ready. The day went by in a blur. I tried to keep myself busy, but all I could think about was the lake. Mom and Dad spent most of the morning packing the car with coolers and bags. I helped where I could, but Mom kept telling me to sit down and rest my ankle. By late afternoon, everything was packed. Dad checked the car one more time while Mom made sandwiches for the drive.
