The next morning, I woke up to sunlight coming through the window. I stretched and walked to the window to look outside. The lake was calm, the water clear and bright. It looked peaceful.
I changed into shorts and a tank top, then went downstairs. The smell of pancakes filled the cabin. Mrs. Reed was in the kitchen cooking, and Mr. Reed sat at the table reading.
“Good morning, Avery,” Mrs. Reed said with a smile.

“Breakfast will be ready soon. The boys are already outside.”
