(Elias) I walked across the lawn to my house, still feeling the warmth of Avery's lips on mine. The way she had held onto me so desperately made something twist in my chest. She did not want us to leave, and honestly, I did not want to go either. But I had things to do before tomorrow’s beach trip. The front door closed behind me with a soft click. I climbed the stairs to my room, my mind already drifting back to how she had looked when she launched herself at Jackson, determined to keep us all there. The girl was relentless when she wanted something. It was one of the things I liked about her, even if she did not realize how much power she had over me. I sat on my bed and pulled out my laptop, opening the debate notes I was supposed to review, but my fingers just rested on the keyboard
