Mariam’s P.O.V.
“You can’t go there in this state, Mariam. I don’t know why you want to go back suddenly when you are still recuperating. You are risking everything”, I sighed internally and looked at my mom. She didn’t know what I was doing silently to destroy Warrick and Valerie. I didn’t tell him because she was soft-hearted and also, she also had a soft corner for them in her heart. She knew what they did to me was in no way acceptable yet she didn’t want to hold any grudge against them. I was not like her. I knew that her worry for me was understandable here. I was only her child and this was related to my life. I didn’t know how much time would I take to stand up. I have already given them so much time to live their lives freely. I already has planned everything for them and it didn’t matter to me whether I was on my feet or not. They had to pay for betraying me and taking my life as a plaything.
“Mom…. Demitry has already talked with you, didn’t he?” I asked her and she huffed only. She looked on the other side. “He can do anything with that house. I won’t mind. After all, that house belongs to you and he is your husband. He wants to do some modifications there so that you can stay in comfort. I am glad that he is so caring for you but”, she looked at me again. “You know very well that your life will be at risk there. I …. I … I can’t trust two of them anymore. You and Demitry told me that they haven’t any hand in our accident…. But…. Deep down in my heart… I think…. No… I am sure that they have to do something about that accident”, she said with full determination.
I smiled at her and then took her hand in my hands. She was sitting with me on my bed. We were on the balcony of my room as it was daytime. “Mom… I trust Demitry and his decisions. You were not there when he did everything to keep me alive”, I paused and she squeezed my hand gently. I gulped the invisible lump that formed in my throat. “At that time, I was not related to him. He did everything to save me only for the sake of humanity. He had no obligation towards me yet he saved me”, I closed my eyes to back off the tears that were threatening to come out of my eyes. I opened my eyes after a while and then looked at my mom who also had tears in her eyes. “Now… I am his wife and he loves me a lot. You could think what he can do now to keep me safe?” I said with a genuine smile on my face.
She smiled at me and then caressed my hair gently. We both stayed silent for a while. I looked towards the sky. It was broad daylight and the sky was clear. I took a long breath while looking towards the sky. It was a peaceful moment and I wanted to live this moment too. “I believe in him, Mariam. I know that he will do everything to keep you safe and …. And Dexter also told me that they are recruiting some professional security personnel as your special security guards. Still”, she sighed aloud and stroked the knuckles of my hand gently. “Still I want you to reconsider your decision”, she said and I smiled. “Okay… I will… I will talk to Demitry too. Let’s see what he thinks”, I said while taking a deep breath.
She smiled and then moved her shoulders up and down while taking a deep breath. “Okay… I am going to see Mariam now. She was sleeping when I came here”, she told me and I smiled. “Ask her to stand up soon so that she can come to see me”, I said while pouting and she smiled. “I will tell her”, she said and I giggled. “You will never change”, she wrinkled her nose and I stuck my tongue out as I always did in the past before that…. That bad day. She laughed while shaking her head. “Layla”, she called my nurse, who was inside the room. “Yes, Ma’am”, she immediately replied. “I am going now”, she said and I nodded.
I took my drawing book and pencil from the bed beside me. I had something in my mind to draw. It was my imagination from the past when I was not able to see. I had a vision of Demitry’s face at that time with no scars. Demitry told me that he was ready for the surgery now. I wanted him to look like the same. I wanted to draw that face for a long time and now when I had a lot of time. I wanted to do this. “What are you drawing, Mariam?” I heard Layla asking me in a low tone. It was really weird to hear ma’am all the time. So, I asked her to call me by my name whenever we were together and alone. “I am drawing an imagination of mine”, I told her with a smile on my lips but didn’t look at her.
She also sat down on the chair near me. I continued making the sketch. I smiled when I drew his eyes. I couldn’t tell how that was possible but his eyes were the same that I had imagined. I once asked him about his eyes colour and by what I had touched, I imagined them and I couldn’t tell how happy I was when I saw those familiar eyes for the first time. He was going on a business trip and I wanted to show him this sketch before he leaves. I smiled when I ended sketching. “You took almost three hours to draw this sketch”, I looked up and saw Layla looking at me. She had a smile on her lips. “Who is he?” she asked me while looking at the sketch. “You guess?” I said with excitement in my tone.
She narrowed her eyes at the photo and tried to recognize the man that I had drawn. Her eyes widened in shock and her mouth hung open. “No…. this can’t be”, she paused and looked at me with wide-open eyes. I smiled and immediately shook my head up and down. Then we both laughed together. I was laughing at her reaction and she was laughing in shock while looking at the sketch. The fact was that the whole mansion didn’t have any pictures of Demitry before the accident. I asked grandpa once and he told me that Demitry removed all the photographs because he didn’t want to see them again. He asked me if I wanted to see but I refused because I didn’t want to have any other image than what was in front of me. I was a human too and I was sure that at any moment in life, I would compare those two images and that would hurt Demitry.
“Did he look like this before?” she paused and I immediately shook my head in no. “This is what I imagined him when I haven’t seen him”, I told her. She didn’t know anything about my past and I didn’t think it was important to her. “Wow…. This is really beautiful”, she said while admiring the sketch. I furrowed my brows in confusion. “I drew the sketch of a man’s face”, I slapped her army playfully and she laughed. “I know that you have drawn a man’s face but …. This is really beautiful”, she said and I glared at her. After two seconds we both laughed again. She looked up when we heard someone clearing his throat. I smiled because I knew who was behind me.
“Good evening, sir”, Layla immediately greeted him and bowed a little. I hid the sketch because I didn’t want him to see this like this. She looked at me nervously and I only winked at her. She then went away from me. I didn’t realize that it was already evening. I looked at the sky and took a deep breath again. The sun was about to set and it was beautiful to watch the evening sky. “So… enjoying the view, huh?” I heard him chuckling and I smiled. He sat down on the bed beside me and put his hand over my head. “It’s beautiful”, I said in a low tone while admiring the evening sky. The sky was clear but the colour’s pattern due to sunset was really beautiful. I didn’t hear him saying something so I looked at him.
I knitted my brows when I saw him looking at me. “What?” I asked him in confusion while having that smile on my lips. He leaned down and pecked my lips gently. “It’s really beautiful”, he whispered while looking straight into my eyes. I blushed and lowered my eyes. “It’s getting cold now. Let me shift you inside first”, he said and I immediately held his hand. “I want to stay here with you for a while. I will be fine”, I requested him and he looked at me with concern. I looked at him while making an innocent puppy face. He chuckled and then kissed my forehead. “Okay… let’s stay for a while”, he said and I smiled widely this time. He folded his one leg on the bed and lay down near me while holding me from my waist. I snuggled into him while watching the sky. The birds had started returning to their homes now. I was already at home with my husband. It felt so right.
“Your mom is not happy”, he said after the sky started getting dark. “Yeah… I know”, I said and then looked at him. He started packing my things. “You know that I also don’t want you to go there and what is this, huh? You want her to stay with Rehaana?” he asked me and I nodded. “You can’t stay here with Rehaana all the time. Rehaana needs someone who can take care of her as her own child. Rehaana and mom had bonded together well. That’s why I want her to stay here with Rehaana”, I immediately explained to him my reason. He shook his head and took a deep breath. “Let’s talk inside”, he said and this time I didn’t protest. He called the guards and I looked at the now dark sky for one more time. I kept the sketchbook in my hand as I wanted him to show the sketch later.
“Do you want to keep the sketchbook with you?” he asked me and I nodded with a wide smile on my lips. “I want to show you something”, I told him with a grin and he smiled. The guards arrived at the same time and then they shifted me inside the room. They were cautious but it still caused pain to me. I restrained myself to show the pain on my face because I didn’t want them to feel guilty. It was me who wanted to go out and they were just fulfilling my wish. They always muttered sorry in the end as if they had this idea that I was in pain. I always thanked them to show my gratitude to them. Demitry once asked me not be soft towards them but I shrugged him off. They were doing their duties and showing my gratitude didn’t cost me anything.
“I am hungry”, I told to Demitry while rubbing my belly. I was so lost in drawing that sketch that I forgot to ask Layla to bring some snacks in the evening. “Didn’t you eat anything after lunch?” he asked me in a worried tone and I pouted. “I was not hungry at that time. So, I didn’t ask Layla to bring anything for me. I am hungry now”, I said and he took a deep breath. “I will be out for two days. You have to take care of yourself. You can’t be so careless”, he scolded me and I only lowered my eyes. I heard him sigh aloud and then he called someone while going towards the door. I giggled while putting my hand on my mouth. He then came back to the room after closing the door. I guess he instructed one of the guards out there to bring something for me.
I saw him going inside the washroom. I immediately opened the sketchbook again and added what I needed to add. I didn’t add these details before because I wanted to know what Layla thought about the outline of the face without any scars. I looked up when the washroom’s door opened. I didn’t put down the sketchbook this time because I had almost finished my work. “What is so interesting that you are still drawing?” I heard him asking me curiously while coming towards me. I smiled but didn’t answer him. He came near to me and sat down on the bed. I didn’t hide the sketch this time. I heard him taking a sharp breath. “This is”, he asked me in a low tone this time. “This is the image that I had in my mind before I got my eyesight back”, I told him and this time looked at him. His face had no emotion but his gaze was on the sketch. “I want you to see the exact face that I had in my mind that time by yourself. All you need is to erase these scars”, I didn’t move my gaze from his face. He gulped hard and then looked at me. His eyes were also blank. “This was the face in my mind whenever I touched your face that time. I remembered all the details of your face deep in my heart”, I said in a low tone while looking straight into his eyes. He didn’t say a word but took me in his embrace while taking a sharp breath again.
