Johannesburg. The Emperor’s Palace.The Palace complex is just five minutes drive from the airport, a huge ostentatious compound decorated with garish, Las Vegas style statues. It covers an area of over ten acres. It boasts three hotels, a casino and an amusement park and seemingly they all vied with each other to demonstrate which of them could display the most kitsch. The convention centre itself is one of the most popular in South Africa and has played host to the African National Party (ANC) Congress meetings welcoming as speakers many luminaries among which Nelson Mandela featured strongly.
