Chapter Nine: Call Me Vander. I can say that I slept well past midnight even though I slept at 2:30 a.m. I feel totally fine as if I slept for 8 hours! I never yawned and I was jolly when I enter the office. As my daily routine, “Good morning Mr. Davids!” I greeted him. He looked up at me and smile. I smiled too and I feel great. Gosh, I’m so proud of myself for making a sad human smile. I should have given an award. “Good morning too,” he replied. I walked towards my table and I put my bag above my desk. I started to pull out my things, to begin with, my work. At exact 8:00 a.m, Jojo and Mitchell entered the office, they usually get into the office together, I wonder why. I haven’t asked about it but they are like that even before.  “Good morning!” Mitchell greeted.  I was about to respond when Mr. Davids greeted first. “Good morning too,” he said. Mitchell inhaled at what Mr. Davids said. I am too, was shocked because this was the first time that Mr. Davids greeted him back. “Are you well now? Or is that a side effect of having a fever?” Jojo asked. “Yeah, do you really greeted me back?” Mitchell asked too. “Yeah, I’m totally fine now. What’s wrong if I greeted you two?” Jojo and Mitchell looked at each other with the same reaction; shocked. “Oh damn, the side effect of his medicine is unbelievable!” Mitchell said as he walks toward his table and so Jojo did too. I looked up at Mr. Davids with a wondering face. He just shrugged and smiled again. Is that his way to move on? I looked down and smiled, turning my attention to my work. I guess this is it. I hope it will be the beginning of his moving on from the past, I hope. Moving on is not because you want to forget those memories in the past, it’s a way to forget those painful feelings you have felt from there. You don’t need to forget the memories, just forget the pain. The next day, Mr. Davids's first trial in the court as a prosecutor happened. It’s the case about the car accident that Jojo and he argued last week.  While we were investigating, we discovered that someone behind the explosion is not one of the friends of the victim, they got fingerprints under the vehicle even after it exploded. The spare parts helped. “Is there any enemy he had that you think can do this?” Mr. Davids asked the girlfriend. “He was so kind. I don’t know if he has someone to be his enemy.” At first, the Judge didn’t approve of what he was pointing out but after gathering some more evidence, the Judge agreed with what he was proposing. So the investigation resumed as we are finding the suspect. We all know that after some tests regarding the identity of the fingerprints, it will all end up well. We all hope so. “We haven’t had a welcome party for Mr. Davids yet,” Mitchell stated as we were both cleaning our working table. “Is it necessary?” Mr. Davids replied. Jojo stopped putting his notebook on his bag, “Of course!” he said. I shook my head. I really don’t know what happened but Jojo becomes a bit close to Mr. Davids after the trial. Really? After their argument! “Then let’s have a welcome party tonight.” “Yay! I’m on the half of the bill!” Mitchell excitedly exclaimed. “And I’m on the other half!” Jojo declared too. “I’m not joining, you are all boys,” I pursed my lips. “So what?” Jojo asked. I rolled my eyes, it was not right to join in an all-boys party, right? “Ah, she thought we will do something bad on her!” Mitchell grinned. My eyes widened at what he said. “No, of course, I know that you can’t do that to me! I was just thinking about what others may think if they saw us!” Jojo and Mitchell keep on teasing me on the way through the karaoke bar. They always make fun of me because I am the only girl but it’s fine because whenever I need them, they always come as soon as they can. I’m working with them for a year and I can say that even though they are both naughty, they have a good heart. “We will make Antonette dance in front of Mr. Davids!” I glared at Jojo when he said that. No, he was not kind! He doesn’t have a good heart! He was evil! “Why am I going to dance?!” “For the welcoming party!” Jojo excitedly said. I smacked his shoulder. “Over my dead gorgeous body!” “Gorgeous? Really? Where?” he teased me again. I feel like my face heated up when they all laugh, even Mr. Davids laugh at what Jojo said. If only I can have an alibi to escape this welcoming party, I will. I know that this night will be full of teasing me! Finally, when we got into the karaoke bar, Jojo and Mitchell ordered some beers and foods. Mr. Davids and I waited for them. We are both silently sitting on the couch there while I was browsing on the songbook. Jojo said that I don’t have to dance in front of Mr. Davids but I have to sing for him. He was so manipulative, I want to choke him to death, really! “Sorry for laughing, earlier.” I stopped browsing when Mr. Davids said that. I shrugged and smile, “It’s okay, I’m used to it. They always tease me, Mr. Davids.” I wholeheartedly replied to him. It’s okay for as long as he laughed, that’s what my goal is. He tapped my shoulder and that makes my heart skipped. “You can call me Vander.” My mouth dropped at what he said. Did he really want me to call him by his first name? I can’t believe this. . . “Okay, Vander.”
