“They tried to bring us down,” a flaxen-haired soldier reported, “but as you can see, we held firm.” I sighed wearily. “We cannot thank you enough. You have paid a good service to your tribe and to your Votad this day.” After eating a hasty dinner, Lancelot and I retired to our tent. We took turns cleaning one another’s wounds, which thankfully were all minor, as we had so many times before. Then we prepared for the following day’s battle.
