The first ones to join us at the hospital were Riley's parents. Her dad wouldn't even look at me, let alone speak to me. In his mind, this was all my fault. I suppose he was right. When I was with Veronica, I knew she was a little crazy, but I didn't think she would be crazy enough to try and kill someone. I think that the naïve part of me expected Veronica to completely back off once the divorce was final because she had to see there was no way for her to win.
