Lola hurried out of Melisa’s chambers and headed towards her chambers only to run to Mike.
She had just taken a step past him without greeting when he grabbed her arm, turning her around before pinning her against the wall.
“What the f**k do you think you are you doing?” Lola hissed, her eyes blazing at him. Mike had no business talking to her, let alone touching her.
Meanwhile, Shane emerged from the bathroom the moment his wife left.
“Well, you now know what to do to claim your wife’s heart,” Melisa stated with a huge grin on her face. She was so happy that her son finally got married, she could not help it. Lola was everything she prayed her son’s wife to be and more.
“I have to go,” Shane announced before leaving his mother’s chambers. Lola sounded really nervous, he needed to be there for her. He decide that he would not push her to admit her feeling but focus on loving her instead. He was on the corridor when he spotted her against the wall with Mike pressed against her. The scene looked intimate, raising an uncomfortable feeling inside him. His PA’s words rang in his ears. “She is annoyingly loyal to him, Sir.” He wondered if Lola still loved Mike even after he betrayed her. That thought brewed jealousy and uncertainty, feelings he was struggling to supress.
“It will help you to keep your hands off my wife, Your Matriarch,” Shane warned, suppressing his anger. It took everything from him not to tear his nephew apart. Mike completely paled out before fleeing the scene.
Lola expected Shane to say something or to at least ask her what happened, but he quietly walked back to their chambers while she followed behind him. He had not said a word, but she could feel his anger emitting from his every step. She suddenly felt like she did something wrong.
“You are jealous,” she finally broke the silence after a good twenty minutes of silence.
“Seriously? That is all you have to say?” he scoffed, getting on her already irritated nerves.
“What do you want me to say, Shane?” she asked while doing her best to be calm. She was still angry about Mike’s action, but Shane’s response to the whole situation was infuriating more.
Shane only shook his head and completely ignored her. She could not take it anymore when he opened his laptop and completely shut her out.
“In your mind I am a loose woman with no self-worth and a moron,” she declared angrily while he looked at her in disbelief.
She took his silence as a confirmation, prompting her to take off the ring on her finger and placing it on the desc next to him.
Shane was taken aback by her actions, but also terrified.
“What are you doing?” he asked with a straight face but freaking out inside.
“This was a mistake. I am sorry, I don’t think I can do this,” she responded with a shaky voice that pulled at his heart strings. He pushed away the laptop and got on his feet.
“Okay, just calm down. You are emotional and putting words into my mouth. I never called you a loose woman with no self-worth or a moron.”
“You don’t have to, Shane. You know what Mike did to me and you think I would flirt and sneak with him. You must think I am a…”
He covered her lips with his, swallowing her words. Lola being emotional and choosing to leave him scared the crap out of him.
“What are you doing?” Lola asked when they broke off the kiss, shocked by his action. To her irritation, her body had reacted to him when he unexpectedly kissed her.
“I am sorry.”
“I was pretty much doomed and you got me out of jail. How can you think I would just forget that?” she asked him. Not only would she be ungrateful to betray him like that, Shane was not the man any woman would have any reason to cheat on.
“I am sorry, I was not thinking straight,” he pleaded while she let out a sigh. They hardly knew each other. She could not really blame him for jumping into conclusions. Not only that, they had not spoken much about this stuff.
“You have my loyalty, Shane. Always. We have to learn to trust each other if this is to work,” she told him while he nodded in agreement.
“You are right, I am sorry.”
She shrugged her shoulders. Shane apologising to her felt strange. He was nothing close to the cold domineering figure she heard about at work.
“It’s okay, you don’t really know me.”
“That is not true, Lola. I know all there is to know about you. I did not think and I overreacted,” he confessed, but she did not believe him.
“Don’t worry about it.”
“Am I forgiven?” he asked while flashing her his puppy face that was pulling at her heart strings.
“Yes, you are forgiven.”
“Yah, right. The next thing you will go and report me to Mother and I will never hear the end of it.”
She could not help but laugh at his words. “Is the mighty Shane is scared of his mother?” she teased.
“I am terrified of her when she is mad. She adores you, so, you have to prove to me that I am forgiven,” he demanded. “Please,” he added with a squeaky voice that made her laugh loudly before tiptoeing to plant a kiss on his lips, only to be whisked off her feet.
“Wake up.”
She was woken up two hours later by Shane who was nibbling on her ear, sending electric impulses throughout her body.
“Can’t we stay in bed today?”
He laughed, satisfied that he was indeed forgiven.
“I am afraid not, Mrs Foster. We have a Foster court to attend.”
Lola sat up and looked at him.
“You have your own court?”
The Foster were obviously a bigger deal than she thought, but having their own court did not even cross her mind.
“Yep, and we are the accused.”
Her eyes widened. She was yet to learn about her new family and their customs, but she had not done anything wrong as far as she knew.
“Excuse me?” she asked, perplexed.
“Mike is claiming that we cheated on him,” Shane filled her in. “It is forbidden for a Foster to date another’s partner,” he added.
“That’s just crazy. I hardly ever met or talked to you!” she cried in disbelief, anger rising inside her. Mike betrayed her and now had the audacity to accuse her of cheating.
“He has evidence of our infidelity.”
“That’s impossible!” she cried while he laughed. Lola was truly an open book and he found her every expression very amusing.
“The Foster enterprises elevators have cameras,” he stated while she furrowed her forehead wondering what that had to do with anything.
“So?”
“You don’t remember?”
“Don’t I remember what?” she asked, completely lost.
“When we got stuck in the elevator and you ran into my arms,” he reminded her.
“It was pitch black and scary. I needed…” she halted. “I have not used the elevator since,” she added, her mind drifting off to that day and the reason why she was terrified of closed spaces.
“Hey, calm down. We did nothing wrong despite the evidence Mike has,” Shane tried to calm her down when he noticed her expression.
“What happens if they believe him?”
“We lose our titles and Henri becomes the head of this family until our child is old enough to take over,” he explains while she looked at him in disbelief.
“You can’t be serious!”
“I am, my gorgeous wife. This the Foster way.”
“You told me that Henri and his family are murderous. They will kill us and that child,” Lola could not help but worry.
“That sounds like them. Hey, you are a fast learner,” Shane beamed.
“Shane!” she cried. He did not seem to take any of this serious when it was.
