Harpoon

It was five hours later when Shane and Lola landed at the castle of Harpoon, which to Lola looked at lot like the one in her country. They found Melisa and the rest of the clan already there. Shane told her that as the head of his clan, he usually presided over his clan cases but they had to come to Harpoon to have the king be the judge since Shane was the accused this time. Melisa was the first to welcome the two. She squeezed Lola into a hug and whispered into her ear. “We have your back, always. Vultures are just that.” Lola could only nod, grateful to have a very supportive mother-in-law, but still could not help but be nervous. It was less than a week as Mrs Foster and already summoned to court. “Remember, you are my wife. Keep your head high and don’t get intimidated by anyone,” Shane advised Lola before ushering her into the Foster court, which was already packed. “All the Foster clans are here,” Shane explained to her. A few minutes after that she curiously observed the Foster royal houses all taking their places according to their father’s order in the linage. Even though Lola was nervous about the whole situation, she could not help notice the resemblance between Shane’s conniving family members and the rest of the Harpoon royals. The hall was in complete silence as figures in all black with swords on their sides strode in and scanned the place. “Those are the Harpoon legends. They are the most feared and revered protectors of the throne. Only a select few get to be that. Only one family has led them in centuries. Highly skilled and lethal,” Shane explained to her while her heart started pounding as she picked up the subtle eyes signals they gave each other. “Are you okay?” Shane enquired while curiously watching her. Lola flashed him a smile and nodded her head, right when the messenger shouted out. “His and Her Highnesses, King Dante and Queen Mandy of Harpoon!” Everyone bowed respectfully as the king and queen made their way to their throne, which to Lola also look a lot like Shane and hers in Asherway. She also could not help noticing the resemblance between Shane and the king. It was very easy to believe that the two were distant cousins. “Mike senior, would you tell this court why we are here?” the king got straight to the point the moment all the court processes were done with. Sir Mike’s jaw clenched while he shot his son a deadly stare before getting on his feet to address the court. “Forgive me, My Lord. I have not been briefed on the details of these charges. I request that this court hear the reason we are here from my son as I and the rest of my family lay no charges against our Foster head and Matriarch.” The court attendees exchanged looks. Sir Mike was distancing himself and his whole family from all this, which meant he was mostly going to disown his beloved son. “Are you saying you have no authority in your home, Mike?” Sir Mike respectfully bowed his head. He could already see the end of all this and either verdicts spelled doom for his household. He made it clear to his family that they were to stay under the radar and in Shane’s good books, only for his son to open a case against Shane behind his back. As the head of his family, he was the with the authority to speak, not his son, whom he had not seen since he opened the case. His goal now was to try and reserve the rest of his family from Shane’s wrath should he win the case. He did not want to think of the alternative where Sir Henri was the head, they were good as dead in that case. Mike kept his head low. Just seeing Shane holding Lola’s hand was brewing anger inside him. The jealousy was clouding his judgement. Nothing seemed to matter to him now but to ensure that both Shane and Lola suffered and never be happy. Sir Henri on the other side was thrilled. He will be the head if Shane and Lola were found guilty. “Children have a way of straying out of one’s authority, My Lord,” Sir Mike responded with his head still bowed. “Very well, then. Mike junior, state your case,” the king commanded Mike, who started hesitating. His father had never left him out to hang before, until now. He could only guess how bad of a move his actions were, but it was too late to back down now. He had no choice but state his accusations against Shane and Lola. He was satisfied when he noticed the court members exchange looks when he projected a photograph of Lola clinging to Shane in the elevator. Although dark, their faces were visible and their bodies were clearly against each other. “This was months before I broke up with Lola, Your Majesties. She and Shane were clearly cheating and that is against the Foster law,” Mike stated angrily to sum up his accusations while his father momentarily closed his eyes. His son had just broken three Foster laws without even knowing it. “Is it not against the Foster law to blindsight your father?” the Queen asked coldly. Not to mention disregarding your emperor head and your matriarch’s titles,” she added, catching Mike by surprise. He quickly got on his knees to beg for forgiveness while his father shook his head, disappointed. The king nor the queen acknowledged Mike’s apology, which meant he was to remain on his knees for until his apology was accepted. “I believe the accused have submitted an explanation for the photograph presented earlier?” the king asked his messenger instead, who confirmed. “Indeed, Your Highness. The video I will play is the response, Sire. It has been assessed by our experts, who have confirmed that it has not been tampered with.” Lola was surprised when the full video of what happened that day projected on the screen followed by her apologetic email to Shane. The tone of the email was clear to everyone that Lola was terrified of Shane and interacted with him as her boss. “It is clear to me that the photograph was taken out of context. Does the plaintiff have any other credible evidence to back his claim?” the king asked Mike, who shook his head, already cursing Sir Henri for deceiving him and his stupidity for believing him. “Not so fast. We have not interrogated the accused as per our custom, My Lord,” Prince Ronald objected. He was Sir Henri’s best friend. While Sir Henri had his eyes on Shane’s throne, he had his on his older brother’s throne. “The evidence we saw might have been fake, but it does not mean that the accusations are not. I must point out that Shane is married to his nephew’s ex. We have to ask questions,” he added. “Well, I have no questions for the accused, you are free to ask any clarification you want to seek,” the king responded to his conniving younger brother who always jumped at every opportunity to use the Foster law to advance his own agendas. “Thank you, Your Highness. I would like to call Lola to the stand,” Prince Ronald announced with a grin. He planned on getting the confession from Lola in every way possible and get the Foster throne for his friend. Shane instinctively squeezed Lola’s hand as she got up to be sworn in. Prince Ronald was the last person he wanted near his wife, but he could not prevent him from interrogating Lola. He was also not impressed with the king for allowing his evil brother access to his wife.
