Four months later…
Lola stood at the senior manager’s office and looked at Mike in disbelief. He did not even try to move Samantha, who was sitting on his lap.
“Come-on, Lola. I am a Foster, and you are…” he shrugged his shoulders. “A nobody,” he added, piercing through her heart.
She thought her best friend was lying when she told her that Mike proposed to the billionaire’s daughter, Samantha Andrews.
“Don’t act so surprised, you knew that we could never get married,” Mike continued while Samantha looked at the devastated Lola with content.
Lola always got to her with her confidence and arrogance. As a billionaire’s daughter, many bowed at her feet, but Lola. It did not help that Lola was dating Mike at the time, the second man she wanted.
“How long have you been cheating on me?” Lola asked while doing her best to suppress her anger.
“Seriously? You want to go that far?” Mike scoffed, fueling the anger she was trying to suppress.
She spent hours of unpaid overtime trying to help him climb up the competitive Foster corporate ladder. His uncle, Shane, was the CEO of the multi-billion dollars company, and ruthless in his dealings. He did not care about his family ties and only cared about deadlines and profit.
Her sleepless nights and sacrifices were what ensured that Mike was appointed the manager instead of his competitive cousins. She did not expect a proposal, but loyalty, not him cheating and scoffing at her.
“How long, Mike?” she yelled, her rage threatening to explode. Very few things got to her, but his betrayal cut deep. She could have finished her master’s in business economics months ago had she not been so busy helping him beat his cousins.
Clap!
A slap landed on her right cheek.
“You, ungrateful b***h! You don’t get to yell at Mike after everything he has done for you,” Samantha spat, inviting herself in Lola’s rage.
In a split second, Samantha was flown across the room and crying about her ankle, while Mike had his hands around Lola’s neck, strangling her.
“You want the truth? Here it is: You were just a plaything I used when I was bored. Sam and I have been dating for five months now. She is carrying my heir, and my family approves of her.”
Mike’s word cut deeply into Lola. Mike had never introduced her to his family. She knew his uncle because he was the CEO of the company and his cousins because they worked for the company.
She blinked back her tears, his next words bringing her life tumbling down.
“You are fired. Now get the f**k out of here!” Mike added coldly and pushed her towards the door.
She bent down, coughing violently, her lungs hungrily taking in the vital air they were starved of seconds ago. Her eyes were bloodshot by the time the cough subsided. She impatiently wiped her tears away before opening the door to leave.
Her brain was still refusing to accept that Mike was the one doing this to her. He did not know a lot about her past but she had her whole future planned around him. He had even suggested that they would have two kids and a dog. All of that was a lie. All along he was taking her for a fool and building his life with Samantha while she spent hours helping him get his dream job.
She glanced one last time at the man she had planned all her life around. Her heart tore into tiny pieces as she saw him gentle pick up Samantha from the floor and carrying her to his desk like she was a fragile baby.
He had never looked at her like that. He never loved her. With a broken heart, she headed to her desk and started clearing it. She ignored whispers and stares from her colleagues. Her relationship with Mike was general knowledge at the office. She wondered how long everyone knew that she was being played. That she was such an i***t.
“Mike finally showed you his true colors, huh?” Becky, one of Mike’s cousin scoffed. She was certain that she would have been the one appointed as the senior manager had Lola not helped her cousin with those impressive business plans and implementation.
Lola did not bother to respond, but continued packing her stuff.
“The stooge is finally shown the back door,” Lucas, another one of Mike’s cousins shouted mockingly while the rest of her colleagues laughed.
Lola did not bother looking at Lucas. All the Foster cousins were always rude, especially to her. She thought that Mike was different from all of them, but she was wrong. At least his cousins never hid their dislike while he lied and used her.
In Mike’s office, Samantha was not happy. She thought Lola got a slap on her wrist for pushing her.
“She assaulted me, Mike. She should pay for it,” she insisted.
“Sam, please. I fired her. Can’t we just let her go?”
“You love her,” she accused and looked at him with misty eyes.
“I don’t. I swear you are the only woman for me,” he tried to reassure her, but Samantha wanted Lola thought a lesson and she knew just how to do that.
“Then you won’t mind if I press assault charges against her?”
Mike shrugged his shoulders and Samantha quickly called her brother, who was the minister of police.
Lola had just finished clearing her desk when the police arrived to arrest her.
She watched in a daze as the police cuffed her. Her head was spinning. She could not even hear them cite her rights. Her life had crashed down just like it did the day her whole family was wiped out by the cartel. Since then, she had done so many things that could have landed her in prison. It never occurred to her that Mike would be her downfall.
The police were ushering her out of the company when Samantha and Mike walked out of Mike’s the office. Her already bleeding heart shattered a thousand more times at the sight of them holding hands.
She could not believe it when the police officers stood by to watch when Samantha approached her and slapped her across her left cheek.
“You are nothing, but a play toy Mike does not need anymore. But since I am lenient and kind, I will drop the charges if you drop on your knees, kiss my feet, and beg for forgiveness. I can even hire you to be our child’s nanny.”
Lola turned to the officers, not interested in engaging Samantha.
“Can we go now?”
The officers hesitated. Samantha’s family was very powerful, and her brother was their boss’s boss. They could not afford to offend her.
Samantha laughed and folded her arms across her chest.
“These officers will only go when I tell them to,” she bragged.
“Okay, then,” Lola replied and got closer to Samantha.
Every company employee watched, expecting to see Lola drop on her knees, but it was Samantha who was crouching on the floor holding her forehead. Mike was also on the floor holding his balls. Lola headbutted Samantha so hard, everyone was certain that both their skulls were cracked. Not only that, but she had also kicked the senior manager’s balls hard too.
“Now I have assaulted you Miss Andrews and your asshole fiancé!” Lola yelled before the police dragged her to the elevators.
