Shane Foster was in his private jet returning from a business trip from abroad when he received a call from his PA.
“Daniel.”
“Afternoon, Sir.”
“Put me up to speed.”
“Your mother wants to see you. You have two months left to wed and impregnate your wife or your older uncle will inherit over half of your grandfather’s fortune.”
“Yah, yah, yah. What next?”
“You have an invitation to Mike’s engagement, Sir.”
Shane cursed inside and loosened his tie. That was one of his very few fears. His brat nephew was going to marry his secret crush. He wondered what she saw in him. Maybe she was not so smart and definitely not worth his interest if she was willing to marry Mike.
“When is it?”
“Tomorrow night.”
“RSVP for me,” he instructed his PA.
He hated his family gatherings. He found all of them to have a superiority complex he resented. Then there was the obsession they had about him getting married. He was however, curious to see his obsession up close one last time.
“Yes, Sir.”
“What should I do with Miss Brown, Sir?”
Shane was caught off guard by his PA’s question.
“Why?”
“Should I leave her in prison or…”
Shane jumped on his feet, a protective feeling taking over him. The woman might be stupid enough to marry his nephew, but he owed her a lifetime debt.
“What? You just told me that she is engaged. Why is she in prison?”
He cursed himself when he realized how concerned he sounded. His PA knew about the woman at the balcony, but he always tried to mask his interest in her.
“She was arrested for assaulting Mike and his fiancée, Sir.”
Shane realized that he had missed a lot while he was away. “And who is Mike’s fiancée?” he asked, curious.
“It’s Samantha Andrews, Sir.”
Shane laughed uncontrollable before recollecting himself. He was finally free to approach his obsession. The Foster family had very strict rules. Cheating with a family member’s partner was a serious felony but there was none against dating a family member’s ex.
“I see,” he said with an uninterested tone, but thrilled inside.
He believed that Samantha was an entitled, spoiled brat, who thought everyone should worship the ground she walked in. He thought she and Mike complemented each other and believed that it would not be long before they hit rock bottom. Their attitude was not conducive for any business.
“How exactly did Miss Brown assault the two?” he asked, curiosity getting the best of him.
Daniel explained before sending his thrilled boss the company footage of the incident.
Shane could not stop laughing as he watched the footage. He did not care that his jet employees could hear him nor his PA who was still on the line.
“Miss Andrews has a skull fracture and making a big deal of it,” Daniel explained.
“I should appoint Miss Brown to be my head of security. She is kickass,” Shane joked, unable to hold back his laughter.
“It’s not funny, Sir. Miss Brown is a company assert Mike used and disposed like a piece of trash. Now she is arrested, and her life is ruined. The Andrews have already submitted Samantha’s brain scans to the judge and demanding for Miss Brown to be sentenced to life in prison. They are calling it an attempted murder,” Daniel cried, not pleased with his boss. He really liked Lola and the more he did a background check on her for his boss was the more he became fond of her.
“Relax, Daniel. I will take care of it.”
“Really, Sir?”
“Have I ever gone back on my word?”
“No, Sir.”
At the police department, Lola sat at her holding cell and stared blankly into nothingness. Her body was covered in bruises, her punishment for assaulting Samantha.
Samantha’s brother came to see her the night after she was arrested. He swore to make her life hell for the rest of her life. Several police officers came to her cell after that. For hours they punched and kicked her. She could see the bruises all over her, but she did not feel any pain. Her heart ached more than the physical pain they inflicted on her. She played Mike’s betrayal over and over in her head.
She looked uninterested when an officer opened her cell and the last person she expected walked in. She had not seen him since the day they were stuck in an elevator. She saved his life but he did not know it and she planned on keeping it that way or she would be sentenced to life in prison for her real crimes.
“Miss Brown, come with me,” he instructed and offered her his hand.
She looked at him with confusion written all over her face. It dawned on her that she assaulted his nephew. That he might be there for the same reason Samantha’s brother came to see her. She shook her head. If he was there to punish or kill her, he would have to do that in the police cell because there was no way in hell that she was leaving with him.
“Please,” he added, confusing her more.
That gentle husky tone and pleading eyes caught her by surprise.
She still shook her head, prompting him to crouch down on the floor next to her.
“Your bail has been settled. Please come with me.”
She searched his eyes and quickly turned her gaze away. Something about him scared her. He noticed her reaction, his heart leaping before leaning towards her.
“I will get you revenge and more,” he whispered, his breath touching the skin around her ear, sending goosebumps through her body.
Revenge was the word that consumed all her days in prison. Him uttering it somehow melted her resistance. There was no hell she was not willing go to teach Mike and Samantha a lesson. She still did not trust Shane but she nodded and gave him her hand. She told herself that she might as well take a chance, she was doomed if she stayed in prison anyway.
They were outside near his limited edition sports car when she stopped. Something was not adding up in her head and she wanted to get to the bottom of it.
“Okay. What is your intention?” she asked. He had just gone against the Andrew’s when he freed her. She was smart enough to know that there must be something in it for him.
He laughed. “Straight to the point, I like that,” he teased while she wrapped her arms across her chest.
“Fine. I need a wife and an heir before end of next month.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. That was the weirdest proposal she had ever heard.
“Why?”
“Well, my uncle will inherits our grandfather’s fortune if I don’t have a pregnant wife that time.”
She found all rich families weird. Maybe there really was such a deadline. It still did not explain why he was approaching her.
“What do you say?” he asked, getting closer to her.
She looked blankly at him, her mind in complete chaos. Shane had a domineering aura and a body that would made a Greek God mad and he knew it. Sexy and wealthy, a combination that drove women crazy. There was no way that he freed her for that.
“You can get any woman for that and you have enough money,” she pointed out the obvious. She had no issues with her self-esteem issues, but she knew how much of a big deal Shane was.
“True, but not many women have the guts to assault my entitled nephew and his wife. I need those fierce genes for my heir.”
She squinted her eyes at him, making him laugh. He did not expect her to agree easily, another proof that she was the one for him.
“And I won’t be able to see my family squirm at my choice of a wife if I choose those many women. It is also not really about the money. My uncle has tried to kill me before. I can’t afford for him to inherit more funds to achieve that,” he explained, all true but not even close to the main reason he was making her the offer.
“You marry me and give me my heir. That keeps my uncle in check and you get your revenge on Mike.”
She still did not fully believe his reasons but her heart raced at his last statement. She badly wanted revenge and he was giving her the opportunity to do that.
“How exactly will I get my revenge?”
“As my wife, you instantly become the family matriarch and his boss. You have my permission to do as you wish with him and his fiancée. I will support your every decision and make sure that you are taken care of for the rest of your life.”
“I don’t know. This sounds too good to be true.”
He chuckled, understanding her reservations. His background checks told him that she was no fool, nor naive or gullible.
“We can have a two year trial. You will be completely mine, infidelity will not be tolerated. I do not share. You are free to divorce me if I turn out to be a jerk. We will have shared custody of the child after divorce. Alternatively, you remain my wife if you happen to fall for your husband.”
She rolled her eyes at his last statement. She would be a fool to ever fall for another man again, let alone another Foster man.
“I don’t care how powerful you are, I will not be your possession,” she stated her condition. She heard many of those stories where a woman married a wealthy man and became his doormat and his puppet. That was never going to be her no matter how desperate she was.
“Never crossed my mind.”
She studied him one last time and nodded.
“Fine, I will marry you.”
She could not help but look forward to seeing Mike’s reaction when he discovered that she was now his aunt.
“Great, let’s go and make you Mrs Foster,” he beamed and opened the passenger door for her.
“You mean right now?”
“No time like the present. Besides, I want to show off my wife at the family engagement party tomorrow night,” he said and winked mischievously at her.
She knew all about Mike and Samantha’s well publicised engagement party. The police officers would not stop babbling about it.
“Okay,” she agreed and slipped inside the most luxurious sport’s car she had ever seen.
