A few minutes later, Lola walked into an apartment she shared with her best friend.
“Lo!” Beverly exclaimed excitedly, running to embrace her.
“Hi, Bev,” Lola greeted and winced, her best friend’s actions warming her heart but causing her a lot of pain. She was certain that some of her ribs were broken from the hitting she received from the police officers.
Beverly inspected her from head to toe, tears rolling down her cheeks. The two of them had been through a lot of tough situations.
“How did you get out?” she asked.
She never thought she would see her friend outside of prison again. Mike and Samantha told everyone who cared to listen just how they planned on teaching Lola a lesson. Everyone in the company knew that Lola would spend the rest of her life in prison.
“It’s a long confusing story. I need to get dressed for my wedding.”
“Your what?”
Lola laughed at her friend’s shocked expression.
“My wedding,” she repeated while Beverly’s expression turned from shock to concerned.
“Honey, Mike is not marrying you, remember?” Beverly reminded her with a soft tender voice. She knew when she visited her in prison that the police beat her badly. She now wondered if Lola had a head injury from head-butting Samantha and the beatings.
“Mike who? Don’t be ridiculous! I am marrying someone better. Way, way better,” she said before heading to the bathroom to get ready.
Beverly ran after her. “Who is it?”
“You will not believe me if I tell you. You just have to see him yourself.”
“Lo!”
“Patience friend. You are getting your job back and I am getting my revenge,” Lola reassured her curious and confused friend. Mike did not only fire and got her arrested, but also fired Beverly to please his fiancee.
“You are not making any sense, Lo,” Beverly stated, but her friend was being very secretive about her groom.
Thirty minutes later, Beverly’s jaw dropped when an exquisite SUV stopped in front of their apartment to fetch them. The car alone screamed money. The white leather interior and Lola’s reception by the driver left her stunned. She tried finding out from her friend who the wealthy groom was to no avail.
Her jaw was on the floor when they arrived at the court and she finally discovered that the groom was none other than their CEO.
Three hours later, the Asherway media was going crazy trying to find out who the lucky girl the zillionaire, Shane Foster tied the knot with. His family members were just as curious. Whoever Shane married would be the matriarch of the family they would all have to bow to.
Samantha was fuming that Shane’s wedding had taken the spotlight away from her engagement.
“Who is it?” she interrogated her fiancé.
“I don’t know, Sam. I have checked with everyone in the family, no one knows,” Mike explained to his frantic fiancée.
“Well, I hate her!” Samantha yelled while Mike shook his head.
“You can never utter those words again. A Foster matriarch is like a queen,” Mike warned.
“I don’t care!” Samantha shouted.
“You should if you want to be accepted in the Foster clan.”
Samantha’s eyes widened like saucers. Being a Foster was all she dreamt about. She had tried her best to win Shane but failed. Finding out that there was a woman who will be higher in status than her was infuriating enough. Now hearing that there was a possibility of not being accepted was unsettling.
Mike sighed. “Shane sent an RSVP for our engagement. We will all meet his wife and hopefully like her,” he suggested.
That night, in Shane’s mansion, Lola could not stop but panic. She hardly noticed the splendour around her. It was one thing to say vows and sign a wedding contract, but another to actually be a wife to a complete stranger.
She walked out of the bathroom wearing her long-sleeve pyjama top and pants. It was nothing close to what a newlywed would wear and she knew it.
Her face started burning and her heart pounding when she found Shane lying on the bed with only his boxers.
“You are not going to run, are you?” he asked her, amused.
She shook her head and avoided his eyes. She did consider running but reminded herself of why she agreed to marry him in the first place.
“Good. Come here.”
Lola swallowed her saliva and approached the bed. He was very clear that his wife had to be pregnant by the end of the next month. She agreed to the deal knowing exactly what it entailed.
He took her hand and massaged it when she sat next to him.
“I know that this is awkward. I also know that you have not had a good sleep. You are exempt from heir making duties tonight.”
She looked at him, his considerate actions touching her. She had not slept since the day she was arrested. That was over a week ago.
“I will, however, request that you get rid of those,” he added mischievously, making her heart flutter.
“I must warn you that I don’t look very…” she halted while he chuckled.
“Very what? Woman, we are married already,” he reminded her. He would never admit it, but he had seen her wearing much less and did not think she had anything to worry about.
She shook her head, realising that he completely misunderstood her. She was very comfortable in her body and skin. So comfortable that she wore a bikini to the beach with no cover up.
“It’s not that. I have bruises, okay?”
He narrowed his eyes, still not getting her.
He cursed out loud when she lifted her top to show him what she meant.
“Who did that?” he asked, fury taking over him. He was livid and ready to strangle someone by the time the physician checked Lola, confirmed a multiple rib fractures and recorded all her injuries.
An hour after that, the news channels were reporting immediate dismissal of the minister of police, who was also arrested for abuse of his power and inciting police brutality. Eight police officers were also dismissed and arrested for police brutality. The nine met in the prison cell and immediately knew that they were in trouble. They were told that the order for their dismissal and arrest came directly from the president. They also knew that their arrest was because of Lola because her name was stated as the plentiful on the case docket. What they could not put together was how she pulled any of it off. As far as they knew, Lola was a nobody with no relatives. Let alone connections close to the president. That was what gave them the confidence to do as they wished with her without fear of retribution.
Meanwhile, in the Andrew’s household, Samantha was devastated by her brother’s arrest. Her whole family was devastated and her brother’s wife was blaming her for ruining her husband’s life.
At the Foster mansion, it was past midnight when Shane slipped into bed next to his sedated wife. The strong pain medication the physician prescribed had immediately knocked Lola out. He watched her sleeping. She looked so innocent and at peace. Her oval face, sexy round eyes and luscious lips, made her the sexiest woman he ever laid his eyes on.
“I will make every single one of them pay for touching you. No one will ever hurt you again, you have my word,” he vowed before trailing off to sleep.
Lola woke up the following morning to find her sensual husband fast asleep next to her. She studied his gorgeous face closely. Shane looked like a model even in his sleep. She was tempted to run her finger over his chiselled jaw when his eyes flipped open, his brown alluring eyes landing on her.
“Morning wife,” he greeted before burying his head on her neck. Lola was no longer the woman who consumed his dreams, but his wife. He just could not hold back anymore.
Lola gasped, her heart fluttering out of control as he deepened his kisses on her neck.
“Stop me now if you are not ready,” he murmured when she let out a moan.
“You are gorgeous,” he declared before she could respond, sending butterflies in her tummy and causing her toes to curl up.
“Lola,” he called her, unable to mask his raw desire-filled voice.
“Don’t stop,” she instructed before wrapping her arms around his neck. She married him for revenge, but the fire he was igniting inside her was now raging on. Her body was yearning for more than his kisses.
