32~ KILLED WITH A BORROWED KNIFE

1377 Words
The searing pain in my back was painful; yet what killed me was the hefty weight on the open wound. It was as if she feared I would get up and run again. I gritted my teeth to suppress the yelp of pain that threatened to escape my lips. I knew I should yawp in this situation. Yet, I didn't do it. I didn't want to sound so weak and helpless. I needed to stay strong despite the fact that my body was in great affliction. "Where do you think you're going, b***h?" asked a sharp voice that belonged to none other than Zelda. Even without looking up, I could tell it was her. She was the only one in the trio with a voice like a foghorn. It was a kind of voice that was hard to forget once you'd heard of it. This was also the one thing I could differentiate her from her twin sister, Petra, whose voice was soft-spoken and deep. As for Avice, her voice was raspy. It was as if she had a sore throat. "Avice, lift your leg a little," said Zelda. A growl followed her words, making me realize that the one stepping on me wasn't a person. It was a wolf. No wonder it felt so heavy. And since this was the case, there was no need to question where the smell of blood came from. The searing pain on my back must have resulted from her claws. I wondered how my back looked right now. My skin must have been peeled into pieces with blood oozing out from the open wound. Bad things kept befallen me ever since I stepped onto Ascian territory: the laceration on my right elbow, the sprained ankle, and fever. And now, there was this. Not that I was complaining. I was only stating the fact. "Don't get me wrong, my dear friend. I love seeing how you stomped on her like a worthless insect. Still, I don't want her to die this easily. You know we have a perfect plan for her," said Zelda, along with a sinister pearl of laughter. Wait. What? I widened my eyes in disbelief. What're they talking about? A heavy weight on my back completely disappeared. Still, I couldn't get my body up. I couldn't even lift an arm or leg. The combination of the fever and the wound started to take its toll on me. Now, I regretted not listening to Edward's words and went to rest in my room. If I had done it, maybe none of this had happened. Then again, why cry over spilled milk? "Let's hurry. We don't have much time left," said Petra. Her deep voice was more precise and louder, telling me she was walking toward where I was lying. "Miss Mez will notice our absence if we stay here longer. Besides, we need him to be mentally deranged, which is right now. There'll be no better cover-up like this again. We need to move fast." "Sis, I can't believe you can come up with this brilliant idea. This whole thing was impromptu. Yet, you can arrange things so consistently. No wonder you're the smartest among the three of us. Think about it. It's like killing two birds with one stone. I really want to give you a round of applause," said Zelda. Don't tell me Petra is the instigator? A shocking question popped up at the back of my head. I still found it hard to believe. My first impression of her wasn't like this. "Not that I want any, but you can give it to me that when our plan succeeds. Right now, it's only the beginning. I won't ask for any reward until I get the result," said Petra. "By the way, you said it wrong." "What?" "It isn't 'killing two birds with one stone.' That's the wrong expression. " "Is it wrong?" asked Zelda. "Then, what's the right one?" "It's called 'kill with a borrowed knife.' This is the right one for our situation." "You're wise, sis, though I don't really know what you mean." Zelda's voice sounded confused. It was as if she had no idea what her older twin was talking about. As for me, I knew what that expression meant. But the problem was… who? Who would be a scapegoat? Before I could ask, Petra did me a favor by explaining it to her younger twin. "It meant we got to kill our enemy with clean hands. There won't be blood on our hands. We'll be innocent because Thomas will get the blame for us," she said in a proud voice. "Thomas?" I didn't realize I said it aloud until Petra response to me. "Yes. It's our poor, Thomas. The one who is having a hard time controlling his bloodthirst at this very moment." She grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked my head from the ground. "That brat acted way too proud for his origin. He had no shame. Not to mention he brought a lowly girl to our territory. And look how thick-faced she was. Even though we bullied her every day, she pretended to be innocent and never fought back. How fake. Just like her origin. It made me want to retch in disgust." Even I hadn't been here long, I could tell who she was referring to. They were Thomas and Isleen. Although Thomas' parents were both werewolves, a vampire bit his mother. The venom affected his birth, resulting in him having the bloodlust trait of their long-term enemy. As for Isleen, she was once human. She turned into a werewolf because she was bitten. Not born. And she was from Gantrick kingdom. Basically, she was an outsider. But the majority of Ascian inhabitants didn't think of her that way. That was because of the werewolf traits within her. I bet only this trio discriminates against her like this. Isleen's case was unlike mine. She was once a human, but she was a werewolf now. As for me, I was still a human. I bet almost everyone here thought of me as an outsider. Or rather, an intruder. "I'd always hated that brat and b***h. But they had many powerful people like King Valdemar, Sir Gerold, and Miss Mez backing for them. Now, it's time to teach them to know their places." Petra's voice was full of hostility. It was so unlike her image. I'd always thought she was gentle amongst the three. Never had I thought she was the opposite of what I had thought. "You're right, sis." "Great. Now help me get her up." "What about Avice? Since she's already transformed, it'll be easier." "No. She has another task. Don't you remember?" "Then why is she still here?" "Go now, Avice." Petra let go of my hair, making my face drop back to the ground. "You know what to do." I heard the sound of fabric tearing, followed by the low growl and footstep stomping. The ground beneath my face shook, so I assumed the werewolf Avice was departing to wherever the destination was. "Where is the rope?" Zelda asked after the noise subsided. "Over there." I had no strength left to resist. Never even mind fighting off their hands on mine. The two of them stood on either side of me and held me by my underarms. Then, they dragged me further toward the forest, letting my knees and legs scrape the ground all the way. It hurt like hell. The abrasion, I meant. Still, this wasn't what occupied my head. I didn't even care if there would be more scars on my body later. Right now, what I was thinking about was only one thing. One question, to be exact. What are these three planning to do with me? ^ . ^ ©️StellaKMary | The Princess And Her Alpha Bodyguard A/N: Thank you for leaving comments on the ANNOUNCEMENT chapter a month ago.
