30~ OMEGAS’ DECEPTION: PART ONE

1374 Words
"Miss Mez! We've got trouble!" Trouble? Again? How many problems can happen in half a day? I thought to myself as I stood up. I looked to where the panicked voice came from to see a boy around Thomas' age running toward us. He kept repeating the same sentence until he came to a stop in front of Mez. The white sleeves of his shirt were blotted in red and were torn in the shape of claws. Yet, there was no wound on his skin. "Miss Mez! It's happening again." Like his voice, his face was in panic mode. The pair of dark brown down set eyes, which were hidden behind his black wavy fringe hair, widened in shock. "It's Thomas, isn't it?" asked Mez. "Yes." He nodded. "Peter and Enric are injured while trying to reason with him. When they know they can't hold him anymore, they send me to you." "Everyone, stop whatever you're doing and get up." Mez gave orders as she looked around the lunch area. "Shift and head to the special training ground immediately!" Then she turned to Isleen and me. "Isleen, take Lae away from here. Make sure she is safe. Don't leave her side no matter what." "But Miss Mez…" "That's an order," said Mez in a stern voice. "I have no one to trust here except you." She placed her hand on Isleen's shoulder. Isleen bit her lips and nodded. "I understand." Mez took off her navy blue dress, revealing a thin layer of an inner white dress. She then shifted into a giant white wolf and headed off to where the boy had come from. I didn't even notice the others had already transformed. Not until different colors of wolves ran after Mez, causing a rumbling sound and shaking the ground as they disappeared. "What's going on?" I turned to Isleen. "I heard they'd mentioned Thomas." "This isn't a safe place, Miss Lae. Let's get out of here. I'll escort you back to your castle." said Isleen. "This way." "But—" "Miss Mez entrusts your safety to me. I can't let her down. Besides, I also want you to be safe." She cut me off with a smile. "Please." I had no choice but to do what she'd told me to do. Still, my legs refused to give me the speed I needed. I walked like a snail, finding my body barely moved from one step to another. But I wasn't surprised. First, I used all my strength to practice archery for an entire morning. Next, I only got to eat a few bites of lunch. It was a miracle that my feverish body could still stand. We were only arriving at the gate when I was already out of breath and soaked with sweat. "Miss Lae, are you alright?" Isleen turned to ask me. "To be honest, not really. But I'll manage. Don't worry," I said, struggling with my breathing. "I'm sorry to force this on you. But we have to leave here as quickly as we can. It isn't safe." She looked at me with concern. "No." I shook my head. "I understand." The two of us walked in silence even after we passed through the gate of the training camp. I didn't know how far we had come, but it felt like forever to me. And my legs started to give out. I'd have fallen to the ground if it weren't for Isleen catching me by the arms to break my fall. "Sorry, Isleen. But can we take a break now?" I turned to ask her. Isleen looked around as if she wanted to scan the surroundings to see if it was safe. "We're still close to the training camp, Miss Lae. Can you walk a little more?" "Not that I don't want to continue." I pointed to my legs. "They won't allow me. I can't even tell them to keep me up when I'm standing. If you let go of my arm right now, I'm sure I'll collapse." "I'll carry you." I looked at her petite frame and shook my head. "Your body can't stand my weight, and you know it." She bit her lips and slumped her shoulders in defeat. It was as if she admitted I was right. "If only I could shift, I can carry you on my back." Her words made me frown in confusion. What does she mean if she can shift? Isn't she a werewolf? Questions popped up at the back of my head. Finally, unable to contain my curiosity anymore, I asked, "You mean you can't shift?" "Not that I can't, but I still haven't gained full control over my wolf yet. She's very stubborn. Most of the time, she doesn't listen to me. Miss Mez is still helping me with this problem," said Isleen. "Is it because you're too young?" "No, Miss Lae." She sighed and looked into the distance. "It's because I was once a human." I frowned, wondering what she meant by that. "I thought werewolves were born." "Not all. Some are bitten and turned. Like me." She turned back to me with a faint smile. "It's a long story. How about I help you sit down first?" I nodded and let her lead me off the main road. She helped me sit down on a giant rock, where I leaned my back on the tree and stretched my legs. Then she settled down on a small rock six feet in front of me. "I was born into a peasant family in Gantrick. We were so poor that I rarely remembered having three meals per day. Then one day, when I was being beaten up in the market for trying to pick up bread on the ground, a handsome young man rescued me. He was so good-looking that I couldn't forget his face." She smiled and looked at the ground next to my feet. "It was love at first sight." I was about to smile when her expression suddenly changed to sadness. "But it was also the love that continued to haunt me forever. One night when I sneaked out to meet him, I saw everything. It was a full moon, so he lost control and bit me. Then he disappeared without a trace, leaving me to deal with the change alone. The venom was so excruciating that I thought I'd die. But Thomas was there to save me. He brought me here and begged King Valdemar to take me in." "Oh, I see. Thomas is so kind," I said. "Yes, he is. That's why I can't believe that such a kind-hearted boy like him has to go through such a terrible thing." "What thing?" I looked at Isleen. "Things like today." She met my gaze with her sad countenance. "Losing control over the sight of blood." "Blood?" My brows furrowed in puzzlement. I thought only vampires lust for blood. As if she could read my thoughts, she said, "A vampire injured Thomas's mother when she was pregnant with him. They had to take him out of his mother's womb before the due date to save his life. Still, it seemed the venom seemed to have already spread into him." "Oh, gosh. That's terrible. Will he be alright?" I thought of his cheerful smile. I'd never known such a lovely boy had to go through such a situation. Life was totally unfair. "You shouldn't be worried about him," said Zelda, appearing out of nowhere from my right. She walked toward me and took out the dagger from the leather belt on the side of her waist. "What do you mean?" I got up to my feet and took steps backward, hoping to keep the distance between us. My eyes followed her movement of unsheathing the dagger. "She means Thomas will be fine. But you, human girl," said an unfamiliar voice, closing up the space from behind me. "You won't be." I found myself being sandwiched between Zelda and a new girl. Isleen, on the other hand, was unconscious on the ground. Standing behind her with a big tree branch in hand was none other than Petra. ^ . ^ ©️StellaKMary | The Princess And Her Alpha Bodyguard
