Lexi’s POV
“Lexi! Lexi!” I heard someone calling my name from far away.
My lungs were not responding and I couldn’t breathe. Then, I felt someone turn me to my side and pat my back vigorously. After a few seconds, I coughed and water spat out from my mouth. Opening my eyes, I noticed Devina over me exhaling a sigh of relief. Sitting up immediately, I started coughing and breathing deeply to gather oxygen into my lungs.
Devina placed her hand on my shoulder. “Thank god, you are safe! I thought that—”
“That I won’t come back. I am—” I coughed again and spat out more salt water onto the sand. “I am sorry that I couldn’t come and get you, Devina.”
