The silence that followed my declaration was deafening.
Evelyn's slightly raised lips froze completely, her confident smile vanishing as if someone had slapped her across the face.
Lydia's eyes widened even further, and for several long moments she stood there with her mouth slightly open. When the reality of my words finally sank in, she looked like she might cry out in excitement and relief.
