Lighting Heart's dreams have been waking her up in the middle of the night. This morning she has been praying to Wakan Tanka that her dreams don't come true. She doesn't want to lose another child. She has already lost a son during an attack one night when scalp hunters raided them. She thanks the Great Spirit that no one was scalped. But they lost a handful of warriors.
River Bend and Teel-O are in their lodge. She regrets bringing Black Shawl to their camp. River Bend doesn't like the way Black Shawl is treeing her brother.
Teel-O wants to build Black Shawl a lodge away from the camp and ban her from coming into their camp. But the Chief has already given her permission to stay until spring.
