With pillows stacked just the right way, I curl into the sofa in the spot next to Mom. The tea is already served, and Mom has been here a long time. She’s glued to the beautiful view of the valley outside our window, as she has been since we attempted an outing yesterday. It’s the closest thing she can get to search for her mate, Sam. She doesn’t like it, but accepts that she can’t stay out in the scorching heat. It seems to relax her when she sits by the window. When that’s not enough, we exercise to train our bodies for a lengthy journey. That was Mother Whinni’s idea. I would have laughed since she displays a typical horse-shifter idea, but she’s not wrong. It is a great idea. Mom has been cooped up here for so long that she needs the movement. It will do me some good for when I finall
