Elizabeth opened the glove compartment of the car and dug around in search of Tyler’s phone. She had never seen him with one, and she wasn’t even sure he had one, but she thought it was worth trying just in case he did have one. The glove compartment was empty, but when she closed it the outside was tarnished with her blood. She looked at the palm of her hand properly for the first time. The cut was deep enough that it would probably need stitches; she had been scared enough that she was gripping the shard of mirror far tighter than she realised. At least this proved it wouldn’t have been totally useless. She decided that it might still be necessary, and used it to hack off a piece of her shirt to wrap around her hand.
