In the backseat of a moving vehicle, Briar stared out blankly at the passing scenery outside the window. For a while now, there’d been nothing to see but trees, and the car continued its gradual ascent over a mountain road, until finally, a structure came into view. Nearly three months had passed since the accident. The boy and his mother both survived. Even now, they were receiving the best care money could buy, and where their physical bodies were concerned, they were expected to make a full recovery. Briar was at least thankful for that. So his case wouldn't go to trial, under the advice of his family’s lawyers, he’d pleaded guilty to all charges and received a deal in exchange. It was a much better deal than what anyone else in a similar situation could have received, but he’d alrea
