My heart was beating so fast I felt like it’d burst out of my rib cage. Brian knows about Liah. He knows. I had told him. I couldn’t stay here any longer. I knew what was going to happen next. I could feel it in my bones.
And no, the truth didn’t matter. Even if he knew the whole truth, even if I told him, it wouldn’t change anything. It wouldn’t change his reaction when it was time to leave. He would take Liah away from me.
I barged into the room, panting, my eyes running around as they searched for Liah. She wasn’t here.
