While I was still contemplating the unknown, the notebook was passed around. Euphie and the others studied it closely before it found its way back to me. Looking at their faces, it would appear that the contents had left them with the same concern that it had sparked in me, and we were all feeling the same way—gloomy. The map was intricately drawn and the places around the island were well marked out. Unfortunately, however, it was no longer of any use as we had already explored most of the areas on it. Right now, it would serve better as kindling for a fire than as a map. Despite that, I carefully closed the notebook and stowed it inside my clothes. I could have thrown it away but who knows when the need for it would arise? It was better to be safe than sorry. Surveying the three faces
