DAWN was a newbie in the Technical Department, so some of her co-workers were mean to her. She stared at the piled-up papers on her table. It was supposed to be her co-workers' work, but now they handed it to her. If Jen was here, she would have helped her for sure, but Jen didn’t come to work today. She doesn’t have a choice but to work overtime and finish all the work that needs to be done because it is due tomorrow. She was already exhausted, but she needed to finish everything before she went home.
She looked at her wristwatch, and it was already six-thirty in the evening. But she still has a lot to do. Her eyes were hurting staring at the computer. She sighed and continued working. Later, she suddenly felt sleepy. She decided to sleep for a few minutes and then continue working again.
Kylen worked overtime and after finishing his work, he decided to go around the building. He remembered Dawn. She works in the Technical Department, so he went to the Technical Department. He saw there was still a light. So, he went in. He was stunned to see Dawn, and she was sleeping. She was working overtime.
He didn’t know that Dawn was still here. He couldn’t smell Dawn’s scent, and he couldn’t feel her presence, which was very strange to him. This was the first time he had experienced it. Is there another meaning of this?
Sighing, Kylen walked towards Dawn and saw the paperwork on her table. He undressed his coat and put it on Dawn. He turned around and walked towards the door, but he didn’t know why he felt that something was pulling him to come back. So, he did. After doing it, he actually felt something strange in his chest which he ignored. He pulled the swivel chair to the nearest table. He sat and looked at the paperwork on Dawn's table.
Kylen was pissed after he learned that Dawn worked overtime because of this paperwork. It was obviously a team work, but it was handed to Dawn alone. “They are really good at bullying a newbie in the company.” He snorted. “Then they should face the consequences of their action. Just wait until tomorrow and I will punish you all for letting this little girl do all the work.”
What he hates is when someone takes credit for the person who did everything.
Just kill them. Callum suggested.
They’re humans, Callum. We should not stain our hands with their blood. Kylen said.
It’s not me who will kill them. It’s you. Callum retaliated and blocked him.
Kylen shook his head and took out his phone. He dialed Colton’s number.
“Alpha?”
“Colton, buy some takeout and bring it to the Empire.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Colton obeyed without any question.
Kylen ended the call and looked at Dawn’s computer. He took Dawn’s laptop and placed it right in front of him. Then he studied the paperwork on Dawn’s table. He glanced at Dawn. I don’t know, but I feel bad when you are being bullied like this.
Kylen was halfway done when Colton arrived with food.
“Alpha.”
Kylen immediately gestured for Colton to be quiet.
Colton bowed his head and silently placed the paper bag on the table.
“Colton, you can go home now. Leave the key to me. I’ll drive later.”
Colton gave the key to Alpha Kylen and bowed his head again, then he left. He glanced at Alpha Kylen, he shook his head, he could see the affection in Alpha Kylen’s eyes while looking at Dawn. “Alpha was screwed this time.”
At exactly eight, Kylen finished Dawn’s work. He closed Dawn’s laptop and put it in her bag. Then he woke Dawn. “Little girl, wake up.” He gently tapped Dawn’s shoulder to wake her up.
“Hmmm…”
“Wake up, little girl.”
Dawn opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Kylen. “Kylen?”
Kylen smiled. “Wake up. Have dinner first before I send you home.”
“Huh?” Dawn quickly composed herself. She looked at her wristwatch. She sighed heavily when she saw the time. “I’m screwed.”
“Eat.” Kylen pushed the food in front of Dawn. Then he started eating.
Dawn looked at Kylen. “Why are you here?” she asked in a curious voice.
“I had overtime, and I was about to go home when I saw that there was still light here, so, I came and saw you,” Kylen said. He took a bite of the food, munched, and swallowed it before speaking again. “Did they hand you all the work?”
Dawn nodded.
“You should refuse. You’re a team here. You should work as a team.”
“I have no choice. I’m a newbie, so all I could do was obey them. Jen, my team leader, was absent today, so the assistant took over.” Dawn looked at Kylen. “You looked pissed.”
Kylen blew a loud breath. “Don’t mind me. By the way, I have finished everything. Just check your laptop when you get home.”
Dawn’s eyes widened. “You…”
“Don’t thank me. I just couldn’t stand it. You looked exhausted, so I just helped you,” Kylen said and couldn’t help himself but stare at Dawn. She’s really beautiful, like a goddess.
Dawn smiled. “Thank you.”
Kylen nodded.
They continued eating when Dawn remembered something. “By the way, what department are you in?” she asked.
Kylen froze and cleared his throat. “Accounting,” he lied. He cleared his throat again.
“Hmm…” Dawn nodded and drank some water. “Thank you for the food.”
“No problem. By the way, I have found an apartment for you. It was cheap, you can afford it, and it was near your workplace. It was more convenient. Tell me when you have time, and I’ll accompany you to check it out.”
“I’m free this weekend.”
“Okay. I’ll accompany you.”
Dawn smiled. Kylen was so nice to her. But they don’t know each other. Why was he nice to me? Should I take precautions? Well, I think I really should. After all, I don’t know Kylen at all. Dawn nodded to agree with herself. She really should be careful. After all, if someone was nice to you without any reason, he must have an intention. And she shouldn’t make an exception. At that thought, Dawn needed to distance herself from Kylen.
After eating dinner, Kylen escorted Dawn to her home.
“Thank you.”
Kylen just nodded and honked before leaving.
Dawn smiled and entered her apartment. Tired and sleepy, she went straight to her room and lay down on the bed without changing her working clothes. She immediately fell asleep.
When Dawn woke up the next morning, she felt refreshed, but she woke up late. She hurriedly went to the bathroom, took a bath, and got dressed. She doesn’t have time to eat breakfast. Dawn just picked up her bag in the living room, locked the house, and hailed a cab.
Arriving at the company, Dawn was a little bit late, but she managed to enter the Technical Department, not being scolded by her team leader.
Dawn took out her laptop. “Where’s Jen?” she asked one of her team when she didn’t see Jen at her table. Instead, she saw Jen’s bag so she knew that Jen had already come to work.
“She was called to the Chairman’s office.”
Dawn nodded and opened her laptop. She looked at the files that Kylen had finished. And she was surprised that Kylen really finished it. She smiled and printed the files. Then she placed it on Jen’s table.
“I didn’t know what happened but all the team leaders were called to the Chairman’s office including our Department Head,” said Daphne. She’s also from the Technical Department, but she belongs to the other team.
Dawn shrugged. “Maybe an emergency meeting.”
“I think it’s about overtime,” Daphne said. “It was one of our company’s rules not to give overtime.”
Then Dawn remembered that Kylen had overtime yesterday.
Just after thirty minutes, their team leader and their Technical Department head came back.
Leslie, their Department Head, she’s in her mid-thirties. She’s a tall and beautiful woman. And she’s not a poker-faced woman, she always smiles genuinely. Unbeknownst to Dawn, Leslie is a werewolf.
“Everyone, may I have your attention please?” Leslie asked, then she smiled. Leslie looked at the new member of Jen’s team. She really looked like a teenager even though she was already twenty-one years old. She looked at everyone. “Everyone, the Chairman was not happy about what he saw and heard. Some of you didn’t work well and handed their work to their co-workers.” Everyone looked at each other, especially those employees who did not work well. Leslie continued. "Their salaries will be deducted and if it happens again in the future, the Chairman will personally handle this. And as you know, our Chairman is not easy to deal with.”
Dawn was curious about the Chairman of Ashwood Empire. But not for those employees who had been working for long in the Ashwood Empire. They all feared the Chairman of the Ashwood Empire even though they hadn’t met him, well except those employees in high positions who had met the Chairman. Everyone knew how the Chairman handled people who didn’t follow the company’s rules.
“I hope that from now on, you will follow the company’s rules,” Leslie said. “Get back to work.”
Everyone immediately went back to their cubicle and started working.
Jen looked at Dawn. Alpha Kylen had told her what had happened. Dawn worked overtime yesterday and finished everything.
“Dawn.”
Dawn looked at Jen. She smiled. “Hi. The papers for this week are on your table. Please, check it out.”
Jen nodded. “I’m sorry. I was not feeling well yesterday. I—”
“It’s okay,” Dawn smiled. “It’s nothing.” Moreover, I wasn’t the one who finished the paper. I should buy a coffee for Kylen to thank him. Maybe this weekend when we check the apartment.
Jen smiled. “Don’t worry, it won’t happen again. I promise.”
Dawn nodded. She continued working, but then she felt someone looking at her. She looked outside and saw Kylen. Kylen smiled and waved at her and then he left.
Dawn snorted and shook her head.
Meanwhile, Jen saw Alpha Kylen smiling at Dawn. Is she our Luna?
