CHAPTER 4

DAWN, who had just arrived at the technical department, made her way to her assigned table. “Hi.” The woman opposite Dawn greeted her. “I’m Jen. I’m your team leader.” Dawn showed a small smile. “Hello. I’m Dawn,” she introduced herself. Jen smiled. “Nice to meet you.” “Likewise,” Dawn said, and they did shake hands. Dawn started her work. She was inspired to work. This is her dream job. To work in a technical team. Meanwhile, Jen was confused as to why she couldn’t smell any scent of Dawn. Even if it was just a plain smell, nothing. She could feel that Dawn was a human, but she couldn’t smell any scent of her. Why is that? She’s a werewolf, their kind had a keen sense of smell. But her keen sense of smell was being challenged because of this new staff. She looked eighteen years old to me. Is she an intern? But I didn’t hear the company hiring some interns. Dawn was so devoted to her work that she didn’t notice the time. If Jen hadn't asked her to eat, she might not have eaten lunch. “How old are you?” Jen asked after they sat on the empty seat at the corner of the cafeteria. “Twenty-one.” Jen was surprised that her mouth gaped. “I thought you were eighteen.” Dawn shrugged. “Everyone thought too,” she said, and started eating. A lot of people make mistakes and mistake her for being only eighteen years old even though she is actually twenty-one. Most of the time, she ignored it. She doesn’t like explaining her age to other people. She’s too lazy to explain, and it’s tiring, so she lets the people think what they want to think. With that, Dawn ate her lunch heartily. When the work ended, Dawn arranged her table and left. Then she saw Kylen outside the building, and he looked like he was waiting for someone. Girlfriend? Dawn asked herself. She shrugged and didn’t plan to talk to Kylen. His girlfriend might have been jealous. She knew it because she’s a woman too. She should distance herself. “Dawn!” Dawn turned around and saw Kylen running towards her. “What’s the matter?” “You’re cruel.” Dawn pointed at herself. “I’m cruel? Why did you say that?” “I’ve been waiting for you and yet you just ignored me,” Kylen complained. Confused, Dawn looked around. It was only them in the exit. Most of their co-employees had left. “I thought you were waiting for your girlfriend.” “I…” Kylen pointed at himself. “My girlfriend? Since when did I have a girlfriend?” He frowned. I didn’t know that myself. Dawn didn’t notice that she actually smiled. “You don’t have a girlfriend?” Kylen shook his head. “I don’t have a girlfriend.” “Oh,” Dawn reacted and nodded her head. Why do I feel happy that he doesn’t have a girlfriend? He looked at Kylen. “I’m going. Bye-bye.” “I’ll send you home.” “No need. I can manage myself,” Dawn refused. Kylen sighed. “I nearly hit you yesterday. Just treat this as my compensation.” Dawn looked at her wristwatch. Can I trust him? She asked herself while looking at Kylen. After all, this was not the countryside. People here are dangerous. That’s what her grandmother had told her. She should not trust anyone she doesn’t know. But Kylen… “I won’t do anything to you,” Kylen answered the question in her mind. Dawn frowned. How did he know what I was thinking? Can he read minds? “Little girl, I’m not a mind reader. It’s just that your expression shows it all,” said Kylen. “Let’s go. My car was there.” He pointed to the Rolls-Royce car parked a few meters away from them. “Yours?” Dawn asked. Kylen nodded. “Let’s go.” “Fine.” Dawn followed Kylen. Dawn got confused once again. If he was an ordinary employee, how could he afford such an expensive car? Dawn ignored her thoughts. Kylen opened the car’s door in the backseat and let Dawn enter first before he went in. “Where to, Alpha?” Colton asked. And he glanced at the rearview mirror. Who was this little girl? So, young. He even has a driver. Dawn glanced at the driver and politely nodded her head at him. The driver just nodded his head. Unfortunately, Colton was one of those people who got mistaken by Dawn’s age. “Where do you live?” Kylen asked Dawn with a soft voice. Colton was surprised to hear the Alpha in his soft voice. He was always cold. Did I hear it, right? Alpha Kylen spoke with tenderness in his voice. He looked at Alpha Kylen through the rearview mirror. Is this still Alpha Kylen I knew? I think he’s a different person now. Colton was debating in his own mind whether he hadn’t heard the address that Dawn had said. “Colton.” Colton came back to his reverie. “Alpha?” “Let’s send Dawn to her home first.” Colton nodded and drove the car. But he needed to ask the address as he hadn’t heard it earlier. Dawn repeated the address of her apartment. “Thank you,” she glanced at Kylen. Kylen smiled. This is so unbelievable. Colton thought. The Alpha that always shows a cold face was actually smiling at a little girl. This is a shocking revelation. I should rely on this for the Beta. Arriving at Dawn’s apartment, Kylen stopped Dawn before she could get out of the car. “You live here?” Dawn nodded. “Yeah, what’s the matter?” “This place was dangerous, especially for a girl like you,” Kylen said with concern in his voice. Dawn smiled. “I can protect myself.” Besides, I’m not a porcelain doll. Kylen sighed. “I’ll find you a new apartment.” “No need. This place was good for me. I can afford the rent. Those apartments out there were expensive,” Dawn said, because it was true. Kylen let go of Dawn’s wrist. “I’ll find you a new apartment which is affordable for you. I’m not comfortable letting you live in a place like this,” he said with a serious voice. He saw the surroundings of the place. There were many drunkards, and he even saw some men drinking in the street earlier. What if they harass Dawn? Dawn just smiled and stepped out of the car. Kylen watched Dawn as she opened her apartment and went inside. “Alpha, is she the Luna?” Colton couldn’t help himself anymore but to ask the Alpha. “No,” Kylen answered directly. Colton got confused. “Then why are you with her?” “I don’t know.” Kylen sighed. I don’t even know why I feel this towards her. I was concerned about her life. But I know that she isn’t my mate. “She’s so young, Alpha. Lady Karina might beat you,” Colton reminded Alpha Kylen, though there was a hint of teasing in his voice. “Young?” Kylen chuckled. “She’s already twenty-one. She’s already an adult.” A shocked expression showed on Colton’s face. “But… she looked like a teenager.” Kylen shook his head. Actually, he thought that too at first. He thought that Dawn was a teenager, but he was surprised when he read her resume this morning. Dawn was already twenty-one. “Let’s go. I want to rest.” “Yes, Alpha.” “Oh, before I forgot. Find an apartment. It didn’t matter if it was expensive, as long as it was safe for Dawn. And for the rent, I’ll pay half of it for Dawn to afford it. Just don’t tell this to Dawn.” Colton bowed his head. “Yes, Alpha.” While heading home, Kylen got a call from his Beta. “Alpha, there are some documents that need your signature.” “Just let my father sign it.” “Ahmmm… Alpha, your parents are not here in the pack. They are on vacation again,” Sebastian informed Alpha Kylen. Kylen could only sigh. “Bring it to me.” “Yes, Alpha.” His parents were really enjoying their life. How he wished he could only enjoy his life with his mate despite that he had a big responsibility placed on his shoulders. Suddenly, Dawn’s face appeared in his mind. Once again, Kylen had a sleepless night. SEBASTIAN arrives at the Ashwood Enterprise. As he entered the building, he smelled a sweet scent. “Mate,” he muttered. Quick, look for her! Raven, Sebastian’s wolf, demanded. And that’s what Sebastian did. He followed the trail of the scent until he got to the top floor. My mate was there. Sebastian’s eyes fell on the woman who was sitting at the secretary’s desk. The scent was coming from her. He walked towards the woman as he felt that his heart was beating so fast. Raven was jumping and repeating the word, Mate! Mate! Mate! Ava, who was focused on her attention on her computer, didn’t notice the man in front of her. “Excuse me, Miss.” Ava looked up and was stunned to see the man in front of her. Their eyes locked with each other. The man looked happy while looking at her, and Ava got confused. “Sir, are you here to see Mr. Ashwood?” Ava asked in a formal voice. Though this man in front of her was handsome, she was still at work, she needed to be professional. Sebastian came back to his reverie. His mate was a human. He smiled. “Mr. Ashwood I will come today.” Then he walked towards the door. He quickly went inside Kylen’s office, then he leaned on the closed door. “What happened to you?” Kylen asked his Beta. Sebastian shook his head. “The woman outside… your secretary?” Kylen nodded. “What’s the matter?” he asked. Then he noticed the changing color of Sebastian’s eyes. Sebastian’s wolf was trying to take over Sebastian’s body. Kylen understood. “Your mate?” Sebastian nodded. “Congratulations, Beta.” “She’s a human, Alpha.” “So, what? You can turn her into a werewolf if you want,” Kylen said casually and stood up from his swivel chair. He walked towards Sebastian and took the attaché case from him. “Have a rest. You don’t look good.” For werewolves, once they find their mate, they should mark it. But in Sebastian's case, he couldn’t do it because his mate was a human. “You’re lucky to find your mate,” Kylen said. Then Dawn came into his mind. And here I am, I was confused. “You could meet here at the right time, Alpha.” Kylen just smiled and signed the documents that his Beta brought. At the same time, he was looking forward to meeting Dawn again.
