I meet Jim at the garage to let him in. It won’t be many more times that I need to. He smiles as he climbs out of his giant truck, and I can’t help but return it. I love him so much.
“Hey, Darlin,” he says, placing a kiss on my cheek. “Let’s get you packed.”
I nod, placing my hand in his to tug him to the elevator. “It’s a mess. Just ignore what you see, alright?”
He kisses my forehead as the elevator doors close behind us. “I’ll be just fine. The faster we get you out of here, the better.”
I nod. Dad has arranged for me to have the house in two weeks. I’d planned to go to Jim’s tonight, but I really need to pack, as much as I want to see the stars. I told him he didn’t need help, but he’s here anyway.
We step inside the house, and I try to push him past the wall
