I groan. It’s so loud, and my head hurts so badly. Every beep makes pain shoot through me. I try to crack my eyes open, but the light hurts.

I squeeze my eyes shut to protect them from the pain. I attempt to touch my pounding head, but my hand doesn’t make it. It hurts to move. It hurts to think. I should go to sleep.
“I’m Doctor Jones,” I hear a man’s voice say. “Your daughter is very lucky. We’ll keep her sedated until the swelling on her brain goes down some.”
“She acted like she was waking,” my dad says. Dad. He’s here. “Only for a moment, though.”
“Yes. We’ve upped the medication. She’ll be asleep and not feeling any pain very soon.”
