(IZARA POV) The next day, an immediate board meeting was called. It was obvious what had happened. Mr Wilton had composed an immediate vote to call forth the meeting. The topic -Throwing me out of the position of the secretary. “Don't worry. Mr. Allure will make sure nothing happens,” Carson assured me as we walked to the board meeting. “I feel like I didn't leave home” I muttered irritated as he glanced at me. “Ah, because you are a royal” My body paused for a moment. Shit! I recklessly said it out loud. I laughed awkwardly at his comment. “Y-yea. The black side of the royal family. Being the King's relative, we are kind of in a tight spot so there are eyes on me. One wrong move and my family lose the royal privileges” I said as he hummed. “Wow, sounds tough” I sighed, shaking my head. “You have no idea. I know I haven't participated in the board meeting before but I don't think they are worse than the councils.” I was wrong with my comment. These people are just as bad. “WE CAN'T HAVE A VALERIAN IN A CLOSE POSITION TO THE CEO. ONE IS ALREADY TOO MUCH BUT TWO?” Today I realized the reality of Valerians in this company. No matter how hard they work, they will never rise. Not when this board is filled with filthy greedy assholes who see us as a threat. They don't even care if the people they are harshly pointing out are sitting in the corner and listening to the entire conversation. “You look oddly calm seeing this retaliation. Most people shiver in fear” Carson muttered as I glanced at him. It's because I have seen some things much worse. You have no idea how many times I have been slaughtered by the members stating I am incompetent. “I should say the same to you. I am not the only one being stomped on” It was true. Although the topic revolves around throwing me out of the secretary position, Carson was not left alone. They use every single opportunity to drag his name in the dirt as well. But I was surprised at how calm Carson looked. Even if his records were perfect, they slaughtered him, just for his ethnicity. But he was least bothered. It was like he was customized to the scene on the board. The man beside me shrugged. “Just stopped caring. They can't do anything but complain because, in the end, Mr Allure is there for me.” The board drama continued for a complete 1 hour as they kept on slamming the table and shouting about the matter at hand while the chairman didn't do anything to stop this improper ruckus. “What the hell is going on? Why isn't the chairman speaking? Asking them to be silent? And where the hell is Mr Archer” I whispered to Carson who hummed. It's been an hour since the meeting started and the CEO has still not arrived. “They should listen to the board completely before they give their verdict. Even though the company is run by the chairman, the board members are important. Their voice are to be heard before taking things into consideration” Carson replied, ignoring the question of the CEO. “Then, I will be fired” It was not a question but a statement. Carson looked at me for a second, before looking back at the board with a smile. “Now now, don't think so negatively. Mr Allure picked you up personally and even gave you an office next to his. I doubt he will let you go” As if that was a perfect intro, the door opened and Archer walked in. He unbuttoned the jacket and sat on his chair, carelessly dropping his file on the table. My heart skipped a beat as my eyes went to my mate. He was already acting arrogantly in front of the board, but he didnt even glance at him. No. Instead, his eyes were fixed on me. As if he was looking straight into my soul. When our eyes met, I felt determination in his look. His eyes moved back to the board as I looked down with a blush. My f*****g heart felt like it will jump out of my chest. “Ok,” Archer suddenly voiced standing up. The members stopped their shouts and looked at their new CEO with determination. Let's quickly end this useless meeting. I have places I need to be” he said opening the file. “Mr Archer, we were talking about the reasons why Miss Milliam should not be considered for the position of your secretary.” one of the members said with utmost seriousness. “Yes, Mr Archer, we believe that you should reconsider the same. The position of your secretary is not a mere position. She should be someone who can accompany you to events, create perfect negotiations, and entertain the clients with the best of their interest. Idon'tt think a Valerian will be able to do that” Archer hummed and leaned forward resting his elbows on the table. “Are you asking me to consider your proposition because she is inefficient or because she is a Valerian?” His question was straight to the point, his voice filled with authority. “S-sir, this is for the best of your interest. The best of our company. My daughter had trained all her life to be an efficient person by your side” Mr Wilton quickly chirped in anxiously. “Is that why your daughter stole the credits of Miss Milliam and projected it as hers?” His face turned red as he grunted his teeth. “My daughter did no such thing. The report you showed me was taken by him” he growled pointing at Carson. “A Valerian. They will always support each other. You can't believe it is true!” “Are you now pointing out that my Manager is a liar as well?” he shook his head tired before opening his file. “Then your ‘real’ report states that your daughter was responsible for Mr. Victor, yet when I sent her for the final discussion, Mr. Victor complained about how incompetent and reckless she is, trying to seduce the celebrity and humiliating our company. Mr. Victor himself confirmed that Miss Milliam was the one who was engaged with him from day one” “Ha! He is a Valerian too!” The man had no shame as he slammed his fist to the table with a ridiculous argument about ethnicity. “Right. Valerians in your mind can't be trusted.” he chuckled before taking a stack of paper and throwing it in front of him. Then what about them” I don't know what was written in the contents but Mr Wilton’s face was turning red by the minute. “All the clients testify the same. Your daughter is responsible for none of the clients and authorities in the company. She had approached exactly 5 clients and none of them signed with us! Your daughter is not fit for the position” The whole meeting was silent as they started to look at the report. It took a while but the report finally reached my hands. Each paper consists of the letters of all the clients I have talked to and signed stating that I was the one responsible for them. “No wonder he was late” Carson chuckled as I looked at him. “I told you, he will protect his people” I looked up at my mate who was staring at me. His eyes stayed on me as if waiting for my reaction. A smile formed on my face making his eyes widen. He coughed looking away but I could see his cheeks turn slightly red. The board had no other way but to close the proposition. No one voted to kick me out and no one voted to let Ashley into the company even in the lowest work grade. When the meeting ended Mr Wilton walked to me with a glare. “This is not the end” he growled before walking past me, but not before pushing Carson out of his way. “Immature” I muttered before turning to my mate. “Thank you” I voiced as he hummed. He acted like he didn't care as he called Carson. “We have some matters to take care of. We will be going out for 1 week so make sure Miss Izabella is familiar with the agenda and take care of everything in our absence”, he said as Carson nodded. I glared as Archer walked past me arrogantly. But he stopped midway before turning to me. “I chose you and then I saved your ass. I expect you to do your best and not disappoint me” He didn't even wait for my reply as he turned and walked out of the door, leaving me and Carson alone in the room. “Arrogant bastard” I muttered with a blush as Carson chuckled. “He likes you” “Likes me, my ass”
