Elizabeth was surprised by how tense she was as she waited for the ambulance Klara had phoned for in the parking lot of a small farm shop.
They had probably sounded ridiculous when they were asked exactly why they needed the emergency services to come out to the middle of nowhere to tend to a woman they hadn’t actually seen and who might not actually need any help, but they agreed to send help when Elizabeth got Klara to explain the way Francesca had lost her mother.
According to Klara they were reassuring, but they didn’t try to argue that there was no need for them to attend and it made Elizabeth see why the others had been so worried.
