The Last Rejection

I walked into the school, keeping my hoodie up. I always did this, and it was as if I was making myself invisible. This is my way of trying to make myself feel small. Everyone in this school looks like a model. The guys are tall and very well built. I mean, of course, they are werewolves, Faes, vampires and even a couple of dragons. I only found out about this because in my freshman year the school was attacked by rogues. I was stuck outside when I was cornered by two rogues. Another wolf saved me, but I never found out who it was.

So, as everyone around looks like a model or tv actor or actress… I, on the other hand… I love sports and I do parkour. I pulled my hoodie down, trying to cover up my face even more. I went to my locker and began to put the combination in my locker when, suddenly, I was grabbed by my upper arm and pulled into an empty classroom. I looked at the person to see it was Jason, one of the hottest and popular guys in our school. He pushed me against the wall.

“You” he growled. His regular light brown eyes were dark. I didn’t know if it was his wolf or if he was angry.

“M- me? What?” I asked. He stepped closer to me and sniffed the crook of my neck, then growled as he pulled me closer. Suddenly, he pushed me against the wall.

“No! The moon goddess cannot pair me with a human! I need a strong mate, not someone that’s weak and could break”, he growled loudly as he began to pace back and forth in from of me while I was trying to make sense of everything. I have heard the other students talk about Selene, the Moon Goddess. I have heard other talk here and there about mates. So, does this mean that… I’m Jason’s mate? Wait, he just said he doesn’t want me. Jason grabbed my face roughly and I let out a whimper.

“I, Jason Williams, Alpha of the Moonlit Pack, reject you, Jousett Halloway as my mate and Luna” Jason said. I gasped as an incredible pain I had never experienced before hit my chest, making me clutch my chest. I looked at him, I could see his wolf fighting him as he let go of my face. I took a deep breath and something inside me told me I knew what I had to do. I looked at him as I brought my hand down from my chest to my side. I stood straight with my shoulders back and my head held high.

“I, Jousett Halloway-” his hand shot out and grabbed my face.

“You will not reject me!” he hissed. I felt angry. What was is problem? He rejected me and caused me pain and I can’t accept his rejection? Hell no. I tried to push his hand away and since he didn’t let go, I bit him only to be backhanded by him but this made me even angrier.

“I, Jousett Halloway accept your rejection” the moment the words were out of my mouth, a worse pain than the first one hit me to the point that I fell on my knees but not a sound let my lips while Jason howled in pain. Two other students rushed in and saw me on my knees while Jason was clutching his chest. They helped Jason out of there and left me in the classroom. The pain was excruciating and I couldn’t get up, so I grabbed my phone and dialed my brother’s number as I fell to the floor.

“Hello?” I heard my brother’s voice. I opened my mouth but only a small whimper came out.

“Jousett? Little moon is that you?” Jyles, my brother asked.

“H- help” was the only thing I could get out before I blacked out. I don’t know how long went by when I felt someone lift me into their arms.

“I got you little moon. I’m right here” I heard my brother say and I feel my body relax. When I woke up again, I was on a soft bed. I was in my room. The pain was still there, but not as bad as it was before.

“Little moon, you’re finally awake” I heard Jyles say from beside me. I turned my head to see him on the chair next to my bed. He look like he hadn’t slept in a couple of days.

“How- how long was I out for?” I asked.

“Two days. You had me worried. What happened?” he asked. Would he believe me if I told him? seeing the conflict in my eyes he gently took my hand in his.

“Little moo, you know you can tell me anything” Jyles said. I sighed and looked at my lap.

“I know this might sound crazy, but my school is for supernatural creatures” I said. He stiffened for a second.

“What do you mean supernatural creatures?” he asked.

“Werewolves, Faes, vampires and even a couple of dragons” I said.

“How do you know this?” he asked.

“Freshman year the school was attacked by rogues. I was stuck outside when I was cornered by two rogues. Another wolf saved me, but I never found out who it was” I said.

“What? And why didn’t you tell me?” Jyles asked.

“Cause mom and dad had just passed away and I didn’t want to burden you” I said looking at my hands.

“Jousett, you are my sister-”

“Stepsister” I corrected. He gently grabbed my chin making me look at him.

“You are my sister and you will never be a burden to me. Understand?” he asked and I nodded.

“Good now tell me what happened two days ago?” he asked.

“Okay, so this guy at school, he’s a werewolf… an alpha. He said I was his mate, but that the Moon Goddess could not give him someone so weak, so he rejected me as his mate and Luna. The pain that I felt was like nothing I had ever felt before, but the moment that I accepted his rejection… God Jyles… I never wish such pain upon anyone. I felt like my heart- no like my soul was being ripped our of me” I said not realizing that tears were streaming down my face until he gently reached up and waited my tears. I looked at my brother and saw the pale look on his face before he pulled me in for a hug.

“You have no idea how lucky you are to still be alive” he whispered into my hair.

“I don’t understand. You... you know about this?” I asked. He looked at me and nodded his head.

“Yes, I know about all of this and I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner because we just wanted to keep you safe”, my brother said as tears streamed down his face.

“Tell me now. How do you know about all of this?” I asked my brother. I love my family, though they are not my biological family, they adopted me, gave me a roof over my head, put me in school, fed me, clothed me, and loved me when I was only a couple of weeks old. They found me in front of their doorstep, took me in and adopted me. I've been with them ever since, and they love me as if I was the real daughter.
