CHAPTER 6: Sarah

Hi Again, My Deity.

   Sarah Lacarte.

Paglapag pa lang ng eroplano ng army, tumakbo na agad ako palabas at agad kong nakita ang kapatid kong si Paris na ang lawak ng ngiti habang naghihintay ito sa waiting area ng mga pamilya ng mga soldiers na katulad ko, malapit sa eroplano ng Army.

There's a live musical band bilang pagsalubong sa amin. Dala-dala ang aking malaking army travel bag, binaba ko ito sa semento para yakapin ang aking kapatid.

"Masaya ako at nakauwi ka nang ligtas at hindi ka umuwing bangkay. Last na 'to, ha? Pinag-alala mo ako nang sobra buwisit ka."

Humiwalay ako sa yakapan namin at ginulo ang naka braided nitong buhok.

"Hey not the hair, b*tch."

Bigla kong naalala si Sierra when she said that. I was taken aback at napansin naman 'yun ni Paris.

She sighed, "Naalala mo na naman si Sierra. I get it. No worries because she just came back from Italy two weeks ago pa."

My heart leaps at that. Oh god..

"Sana hindi na siya galit sa akin," Mahinang pahayag ko.

Paris snorted a laugh. "Yeah keep dreaming, sister. I bet she's still angry. And that's a good thing, you know? Because if she's still angry, it means that she still loves you."

Nailing na lang ako sa kapatid ko. Her logic with things, it makes my head spin every time.

I breathe a sigh then side hug her. "I hope so."

I gather my stuffs at nagpaalam na muna ako sa superior ko na uuwi na muna. He let me be right away and he reminded me the induction that will happen in four days where I will be rank up from Lieutenant Colonel to Lieutenant General. It's a major rank-up for me kaya sobrang halaga nito sa akin.

After I salute at my superior, I'm now on my way home with Paris.

Habang nasa byahe kami, walang tigil sa pagkukwento si Paris sa naging buhay niya dito sa Pilipinas for the past two years na wala ako.

Nakangiti lang ako habang pinapakinggan siya hanggang sa kumunot ang noo ko nang malaman na may boyfriend na siya.

"And who is this boyfriend of yours? I demand to meet this guy, Paris. He better show up his face before I hunt him down and kill him myself."

Paris rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Oh come on. Don't be a p*ssy. He's a good guy--"

I put a hand stop in the air. "Hep, hep, hep! I don't care if he's a good guy. Men are predators. Kaya kailangan ko pa rin siyang makilatis. What's his name?" I demanded at her.

"Relax, Sarah."

"What's his name, Paris?!"

She rolled her eyes again. "I'm not gonna tell you his name if you don't calm the f*ck down. Take it easy."

But I didn't take it easy hanggang sa makarating kami sa bagong bahay na pinagawa ko one year ago pa.

Since I don't know if I can make it alive, I invested all the money that I have into Dela Questa Holdings.

Halil Dela Questa has been the supplier of the army ever since. Magmula sa mga planes at mga baril na ginagamit namin especially sa war zone.

Hindi naman gano'n kalaki ang naipon ko pero sa two years na wala ako sa Pilipinas, with the help of Paris, she managed to grow my investments to Dela Questa Holdings.

At heto na nga ang naging bunga no'n lahat, my very own house at last and I also buyed a car for me and Paris.

"Take a bath and change your clothes. Naalibadbaran na ako sa suot mo." Nangiwi pa siya habang nakatingin sa fatigue uniform na suot ko.

Tinapunan ko nga siya ng kung anong makita ko bago nagpunta sa bathroom at naligo.

INDUCTION DAY..

The ceremony started. At habang ginaganap ang mahalagang araw sa mga buhay naming sundalo, walang pagsidlan ang saya sa mga kasama kong sundalong na rank-up.

Tahimik lang ako the whole time but when I saw this one particular woman, my whole body went crazy.

Hindi ako puwedeng magkamali. Siya nga ito.

That's Sierra that I'm seeing right now. Right on the stage wearing a Danish Army uniform.

Hindi ko na napapansin na pagawi na ako sa stage habang ang mata ko ay naka-pako sa kinaroroonan ng aking mahal.

But then I stopped mid way when I saw this one particular woman na sobrang pamilyar sa akin. She's smiling from ear to ear while tying the badge on Sierra's uniform.

Parang naging slow motion ang lahat sa paningin ko, especially when Bellarose leaned in to gave Sierra a kiss on her cheek then I just heard the MC telling the whole crowd, "Please give a round of applause to Major General Sierra Gaston of Danish Army with her wife Bellarose Martinelli. Nandito sila ngayon para tumulong sa Philippine Army at para palakasin pa lalo ang hukbong sandatahan ng Pilipinas--" The MC keeps on talking but I can't seems to hear what she's saying anymore dahil bigla na lang nagpantig ang tenga ko sa narinig.

Bellarose Martinelli and Sierra Gaston? Wife? What?

I was blinking multiple times to check if I'm not really mistaken. I even shook my head to wake-me up from this nightmare.

"Sarah? Are you okay?" I can hear Paris' concern voice, I know she's besides me right now but I can't seems to see her.

My heart is racing, my sweat is dripping through my forehead and at the back of my neck.

Sh*t, I'm hyperventilating!

Before I know it, there's someone who slapped my face really hard and that's when I was brought back to reality.

"You were hyperventilating. Wala akong ibang choice kundi sampalin ka. Are you okay now? I have to pulled you out from there. People are starting to panic when they saw you crying while chasing your breath."

What? I'm crying? I immediately wipe my eyes to check and Paris is right, I'm crying.

"What happened to you out there? Not with Sierra but out there in the war zone?"

I found my body tensing up to her question. Napalunok din ako at nagsisimula na akong kabahan.

"Lieutenant General Lacarte,"

I tense up much more when I hear that voice.

Siniko ako ni Paris to look at my back and when I did, my eyes automatically made contact with Sierra's hand intertwined with Bellarose's hand.

Oh my god, I wish I just been killed in the battlefield than to see this in front of me.

And seeing this right now, I just realize that, yes, mag-asawa nga sila..
