Kendra’s POV
I took my time in the bath, sinking deep under the heat and steam. It felt good to let the tension float away, even if only for a moment. By the time I stepped back into my room, towel wrapped around me, I saw that Fiona had already laid out some outfits for me. She’d picked well. A deep blue velvet dress with a low square neckline and a high slit. It was elegant, but not too stiff. Soft, but strong. Like she knew exactly what I needed tonight.
I chose it without hesitation and got dressed.
When I turned toward the mirror, adjusting the neckline a little, Fiona came up behind me. She smiled at me in the glass, then leaned in and kissed my cheek.
“Look at you,” she murmured, wiping her lipstick off my skin with her thumb.
I glanced at her reflection. “You really think so?”
