The party could be heard echoing down the long hallway as my family, and I walked towards the noise of laughter and music.
When I entered the hall, the music stopped mid-song, and everyone turned to look at the family as they entered. I felt my cheeks go red at the sudden change in the room.
‘Come to the front over here, please.’ A warrior said, who had stood at the door waiting for their arrival.
The warrior led them to the front of the hall and sat them at the large table. The stepfather sat next to the king, my mother next to the queen, the boys sat on a different table, and I was placed next to Rual, along with the younger boys of the king and queen.
The music commenced again, and chatter around the hall filled the room. There was no dancing yet. That would come later af
