As the day slowly waned, casting long shadows across the forest, Edric and Margaret continued their search for Elyssa and Landon. They were relentless despite how tired and hungry they were. Edric was able to follow the scent he marked Elyssa with cautiously. As they approached the path that led to the cave, he suddenly hesitated, blinking with bafflement. The scent was fading. He took further steps, sniffling the air more frequently than before. It had faded completely. He’d lost her. “What… What is the matter?” Margaret asked, panic hidden beneath her voice.
