Chapter 15 Davinder hung his coat on the rack and rubbed his hands together. “Whew, it’s cold out there for April.” He pulled his boots off. “Sorry I’m late.” It was Friday night, two days after my conversation with Elsie, and I stood there in my living room, my heart in a vise. I’d been sick for the last two days. I’d not been able to keep anything down and had slept on and off. I’d wake up on the couch and wonder how I got there, or look up at the kitchen clock and realize I’d been sitting in front of a sandwich for minutes, staring out into space. “Hi,” he said, kissing me. “I called you last night. Writing a lot?” “Yeah,” I heard myself say. “You feeling okay?” “I’m a little sick.” I grabbed a cushion and hugged it for strength. He sat by me, on the edge of the couch, nervous. “
