Sweaty and with tears pricking my eye, I was somehow grateful it was Dexter who was outside the door. He had a tentative smile, and in his hands was a box.
“Good thing you arrived! Can you help me? Do you have time? Are you free?” I asked without stopping to breathe.
“Woah! Slow down. What happened here?” He looked down at Baron on the floor and then at me with curious eyes.
“I had not noticed he had been lying on the floor for I don’t know how long. He’s having difficulty breathing and has not eaten or drunk since this morning.”
“Where’s Jace?” He gazed past me.
“He’s working. Can you get us to the vet? Tell me now. I booked a taxi, and it’s on the way here.” I may have sounded demanding, but the pressure to get Baron to the vet as soon as possible was getting heavy. Baron
