Dinner over, Liam cleaned up the kitchen, while in the backyard, Kieran played with the dog, throwing a stick around. Kieran and Liam had had a wonderful time during dinner. The conversation had been easy between them. Kieran had eaten fast and asked for seconds on everything. Kieran had an appetite for food, information, life that Liam was drawn to. Now, cup of black coffee in hand, Liam went to stand in the patio doorway and watched the dog and Kieran run around in circles. He slid the door open. The first raindrop snapped his skin, heavy and warm. He set the cup down. “Okay, Kieran, come back inside before the storm hits.” Kieran glanced his way.
