Elena got out of the car with the help of Emily, who was waiting with a wheelchair. The maid carefully supported Elena and helped her sit down.
Two nurses followed, each cradling one of the twins. They carried them directly into the house. Elena watched them, her gaze unblinking and full of suspicion.
They went inside.
Victoria and Alistair were waiting in the living room. Emily glanced around, her eyes taking in every corner of the space.
There was no welcome, no celebration of any kind. Only a cold and indifferent silence.
"Take her straight to her room, Emily," Victoria commanded without turning her head.
